And the lyrics are great too. Very spot on. If Tom and Ed " feel the love , make love not war peace " make a war-protest song , there is def something wrong with the world and you can't deny that anymore.

I agree with the sentiment of the lyrics but just feel that they are too specific to a particular time and place. Many of the great protest songs have a certain timeless quality to them that will make them relevant to future generations (cf. 'Imagine'). While most dance music is of a certain time and place, the Chems are one of the few artists in the scene who do consistently make music that endures beyond the length of the promotion campaign.

Maybe i'm the only one but i was diggin' Left Right from the first moment i was listening to it, no matter if it's hip hop (aint it their roots as djs???) or not... I love the synth that's goin' around in that tune.
i know their roots are kinda hip hop but i doesn't sound typically chemical brothers.
I think that's what I like about it so much. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the lyrics. Anwar's flow is fine and the topic tackled is a fair one but he made the lyrics too topical and too easily dated. Contrast it with 'Close Your Eyes' right after which is timeless.
The instrumental is huge and I wouldn't have been upset if a purely instrumental version (w/the chorus) had been released as a b-side.
i think that the chems let anwar work? or did they do the instrumental? on push the button i think that the chems other artists like anwar, anna lynne and the magic numbers give a chance to do their piece of music??? i think we really need a full chems album like surrender, come with us. now the influences of other artists are to much... but it's a beautifull concept!
I respect the Chemical Brothers decision 110% to put Left Right on Push The Button. Not only is it a powerful, full out hip hop track, but it is topical and although the Chems make music that makes you feel good, they themselves are not immune to what is going on in the world... They took a risk putting a song like this on their album, it was unexpected and threw people for a loop and at the very least I think they deserve positive recognition for that. I am hopeful that one day in the not too distant future, the song will be outdated. In my book it is a protest song much like the protest songs of the 1960s.
As for your statement on vocal collabs, well I am going to have to agree to disagree here. I love the vocal collaborations and I think the Chems ability to pull them off says a lot about their strength as musicians and producers.
I am not ready for another Surrender or Come With Us. Those have been done already. I want the future. I want Chemical 6. Bring it ON!!

Ah and to the actuality of Left Right that might be true but i think more for native speakers who listening to English songs differently than in non-English countries, i think. Imagine you liked a German (or any other language) song but you lesser care about words than about the melody. That don't means the lyrics of Left Right ain't interesting . . .
True enough. As I said above, I wouldn't have minded an instrumental version (w/the chorus left in). That massive guitar-ish (I'm assuming probably midi guitar hooked to whatever) lick is simply mindblowing. Sonically one of the best tracks on the album. Huge effect.

Thou shalt go to NYC. I was in the exact same boat pre-Coachella 2005. Decided to do it anyways and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

with anothers surrender and come with us i mean: both albums were a kinda revolution, their both completely different. and ofcourse i'm looking forward to chemical six!!!! and i forgot to mention that the lyrics of left right are very good!!
Aaah, I see - gotchya!
But why travel to NYC when you can see them in Holland? They played a couple of times there during Push The Button and they might do the same next time around. Hopefully your friends might change their minds... drag them along anyway. My husband and I converted a few people to the Chems when they went along to some shows with us.

Yeah i really didn't get the NYC thing either tbh.
Maybe Den thinks Tom and Ed are American ? That would explain !
But no Den , Tom and Ed are english , and england just happends to be the best place to see the chems. Fly with easyjet and it will be fucking cheap. I did it about 3 times now to England , once to Barcelona , once to Belgium and once to Ireland , and it was all awesome !!
And if they tour again you might even see them in our own country , they usually play Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. STart saving buddy ! ;)
