Before yesterday I was a slight fan of the chemical brothers. Like most people, I'd only really heard 'Hey Girl, Hey Boy' (and loved it) and 'Block Rockin Beats'. I was at Big Day Out (Australia's biggest music festival) and I was looking at the schedule when I saw "chemical brothers". I thought to myself "hmm, maybe they'll play hey girl, hey boy". At 6:30 I went into the boiler room, I squeezed my way through the masses of people in the huge arena and suprisingly got right in front! (Side note, while waiting I saw Dj Bexta, Freestylers and Dj Carl Cox). I'd heard of Carl Cox before I went in, and became a bigger fan by the end of his set. At 9:30, the chemical brothers walked in to a huge roar from the crowd and started "Hey girl, Hey boy". I was right in the front. Right on the barracade. Just a little bit off centre. I, like everyone near me, went off. The visual effects were amazing and the performance couldnt possibly be any better. As they went through their songs I fell in love over and over again. The set finished and I ran off and got myself a tshirt. It's 24 hours later and Im still buzzing.

To finish, let me just brag one more time... I WAS RIGHT AT THE FRONT AT A CHEMICAL BROTHERS SHOW. It was excellent.

Beign at the front is bad!

The speakers hurt your ears and you have to turn your head too much to see everything that's going on on the stage.

:P X-D

Lucky you. ;)

Which t-shirt did you get?

Yes, go ahead and brag and gloat to all us long-time fans that have never seen them live and possibly never will because of where we live... screw that, I'm gonna make every effort to move to the UK!! I CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE!!

Cheers, mate! ;-)

This is part true, but on the other hand, I managed to be right in the first row at a chems Gig and it is indeed the closest thing to meeting god in person.

But, yeah, It is definitely hard to get a good spot to watch what is going on on stage (especially since I'm a MASSIVE Trainspotter, going "oh, this is a Korg MS2000R." and "right, now Ed changed the patch on the Doepfer Seqeuncers"... ).

It depends on the shape of the room/field, but sometimes it doesn't get better except if you manage to move at the back and gain a bit of height, but then you're too far away.

Here is what I suggest, they should tilt the stage and all the gear Towards the audience. Tom and Ed could perform being attached with ropes.cables so that they remain on the slope. That way everybody could see what they do.

It has been slightly better on the last tour as you could see their legs instead of visuals on the side of the table. (don't know if I make myself perfectly clear here)...

At least all of you would be allowed to go to one of their shows if they were in your area, im 13, and even if they were playin in my city(Memphis, TN), even if it wasnt in a club, my parents still wouldnt let me see them. :'(

nar being at the front is great, and actually normaly better for your ears cos the speakres tend to be beside you, so the main sound goes past while you hear the fresh sound live from the monitors :D

Had a ticket to coachella, They were the only ones I was dead set on seeing. Two weeks before the show my grandparents sent me back to Idaho. Wasted 80 bucks and missed what was the only real chance I've ever had of seeing them. Highly unlikely that they'll ever come to Boise, and it's just as unlikely I'll never escape this dismal little crap hole.

i tend to disagree with all of you. both times i have seen them, (once in SF live, once at coachella doing a dj gig) i was at the barrier in front of the speakers. best view up front really. the people dead center couldnt see shit. and i got the benefit of standing in front of the stack of subs for the entire show. indeed an experience. i was however wearing earplugs, but the kind that give you a full range of sound. still loud as hell :)

Thanks for the replies! I thought, guh newbies never get responses.. but 13 now. wow. thanks.

Being at the front was amazing for me. The speakers didnt hurt my ears (I've sort of built up a tolerance being a drummer), and I could see everything really clearly. No big heads in my view! Even more suprisingly, there was only one surge that really hurt. Luckily my big mouth warned everyone before it started so no one touched me or tried to steal my spot! Also at the end of the show, instead of having to push through the crowd to try and get out, one of the crowd care people just picked me up and let me out through the barracade! I was only about a metre away from the boys!

I got a "Push the button" guys tshirt (the girls ones were pink. icky) It just has the ptb logo and the chemical brothers logo on the sleeve.

And thanks for the welcome Skylined!

Sorry bout the mistake there chemical_si, I am a new fan after all!

Does anyone here like Dj Carl Cox? He has a huge fan base here.. Amazingly I saw System of a Down even watching his show just next to him!

Anyway, thanks for the welcome guys!

Lita

Carl Cox is great, Ive only seen him once but the big man is a great dj, i love the way he talks to the crowd and is just up for a laugh. Its allways great to be near the front at a gig, every chems show or club night i have been near front except glasto.

No Lita, that's bad, you don't gain "tolerance", that's that you're getting deaf!

You were very lucky. ;)

Can you take a pic of the t-shirt please?
