Ha, one of my friends swears the Chems "ripped" Godsmack's Voodoo on the Big Jump. I don't really get it.

*part* of the guitar part sounds kind of like the riff from the big jump. but no. nothing alike aside from that.

sexyback however has a similar tune, VERY similar beat and the swerving synth sounds are reminiscent as well....

This is what happens when I'm outta town...

I would say that I would like it with all the vocals stripped except the 'DO IT AGAIN' part, because the guy sounds like a complete poncing poofter.

But the actual contents of the lyrics, freaking out because you've melted your brain redeems the ghey-ness. Seriously, that guy sounds like micheal jackson with a head full of helium and his ass full of little boys.

But, like I said, the content makes up for the delivery. You will not hear a Justin Timberlake song about taking drugs until your brain is chewy.

I can't really judge it at all except in the context of the whole album. When I hear the whole thing, loaded outta my skull, I will be able to pass judgement.

I despised Galvanise the first time I heard it, and nowadays it's not a track I skip on PTB (that would be the Boxer... I hate the fnckin vocals on that track) so I will give this a 5/5, for fucking with my brain.

thank you, good night, and have a pleasant tmrw.

P.S. Photo's from whirly and stash's fuct up Forumite Road Trip will be 4thcumming when I find out where I left the cameras.

Actually, the 'Oh my god what have I done all i wanted was a little fun got a brain like bubblegum blowing up my cranium' part could have been quoted ver-frickin-batim from phonecalls I've gotten in the last month from some of you wankers... you know who you are.

Good god, I just spent nearly an hour going over this thread with a fine toothed comb! And of course, I wasn't around when Ed comes on to post AGAIN!!! Such interesting discussion and it seems the camp is once again divided (though not with the same intensity as those even-jesus-hates-the-golden-path threads). Thankfully!

So here I am. Listening to this song for the 7th time now. Thanks to Jeanie who called me when I wasn't in the door for 5 minutes from my trip telling me "you must go online and listen to this song, here.. I will send it to you!"

And since that first listen, this tune has been stuck in my head.

I will be honest, I was not sure about the vocals and delivery, but the more I listen, the more I understand and feel this song is, in essence, a really fuckin brilliant dance floor pop tune. And when I mean "pop" I don't mean aerosol cheese whiz filler. What I mean is, there is good pop and there's not so good pop, like what sneakerbeater said several posts (and pages back). Kids, this is good pop, and to me it goes to show that the Chems are not only on top of their game, but they can churn out a pop song like no other and in the end it's pure Chemical if you catch my drift. In a world driven by, bought and sold by pop - that is not a bad thing at all. If someone can make a poppy tune, then the Chems can do it better. They are the best at what they do, really. And I pretty much agree with most of what stash said about the lyrical contents. For those of you having a hard time with the way the lyrics are delivered, think about this: there is something sinister and twisted about what's being said here. For those of you that have blown your brain and you've reached that point of saturation - you've had ups, downs, sideways and every physical and mental state where the night starts towing the line of going horribly horribly wrong... and the next day, when you're hung over or cracked out thinking "I ain't never doin' that sh*t again, I was too f*cked up, never ever ever again" and the next weekend or opportunity arises and there you are, doing it again, getting f*cked up, throwing caution to the wind, pushing yourself to that limit and f*ck it all to hell how you feel the next day because now is the moment... that is what the song is. Do It Again not an introspective peek at the future lying on your horizon like The Test, and it's not an epic journey that catapaults you into some other sonic realm like The Private Psychedelic Reel, it is not a jubliant swirl of joy like Star Guitar. Do It Again is what it is, and it's something that gets the blood going, the heart thumping, the feet moving - it is Under The Influence, it's Get Yourself High, it is Galvanize, it is Setting Sun - but it's been reworked and it's smiling at your mischeivously, telling you to do it again, and from of the corner of your eye in that dark, dirty club, you can see the whites of that sinister grin flashing at you. It's a bit evil and foreboding. It is more sinister than meets the ear at first listen. And there is a sexiness, that driving beat, that ties it up in a dark sinful little package.

As for picking apart the sounds, I don't hear anything minimal about it. There is that spacious thing that Darkstar keeps talking about, yes. But minimal - I don't think I'm hearing anything minimal. Then again, maybe it's because I hear these subtle layers magically moving around in my headphones creating this texture. There is this sort of middle eastern sounding bit that's really great, and there is so much - so MUCH - that can be done with this live and I can hear this being played out in my head just thinking about when this song drops at the next Chems show I go to. There's a lot going on in this song that has real acid potential to f*ck with your head when that wall of sound pummels you at a live show.

Anyway. I remember reading an interview with the Chems once, and the person interviewing them asked them something about the meaning behind one of their songs and Tom had a brilliant reply - something along the lines of "it can mean as much or as little as shaking your booty on a Saturday night". I think that can pretty much apply to Do It Again.

So if this makes me a frothing fangirl, so be it. I know what I am and I know what I like.

I think a "thank you Tom and Ed!" is more than appropriate. :)
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

This song is definitely a grower. On first listen, I thought it was only 'meh'. I especially had a shit-fit at the first breakdown with "robotic brain" in it because it gave me an eerie sense of Crazy Itch Radio. I wasn't sure I liked this little break but I think I do.

Its amazing how much of a grower this song is!

Back to the track: I love that little synthy, middle-eastern styled break... it amazes me how they could make something with the synths that make me think middle-eastern, but then make it muddled, but then not... know what I mean?

This song has alot of layers to it too-- listening to it on my computer speakers, my good speakers, and my cell speakers all lets me hear something that I missed before. This really brings back old school Chems for me :D

The vocals of the female and the break where its like "Bang my bass (or is it face?), bang my drums..." also remind me of old school chem style because the lyrics are really hard to understand, as in they sound like they're saying something differnet each time, which is great in my opinion... it makes every listen fresh, and I WANT to listen to it over and over until I finally know what its saying for certain... just to find out I was wrong later.

I think I'll like this track more when I can hear whole thing.

Oh, I played some of this track and my friend who had lost interest in the Chems said he liked it, that must be a good thing 8)

I totally concur! I hope the Chems jazz the song up a bit too before release! I love those bleeps the GA guys put in the beginning. Someone rip that version for me!

Ha, yeah, basically... hes been getting into more guitar... I dunno, lets say hes been heavily straying from electronic music...

And thanks JacksRevenge! I just saw that picture and thought "boy, I took that in a mirror aka speigel, cool!'
