I honestly can't stand people who want the Chemical Brothers to go back to their big beat days. Listnening to the brothers evolve from Dust to Night has been a very enjoyable journey. We Are The Night is my second favorite Chemical LP, second only to, of course, Surrender. whirly's analogy about the tree is an excellent view that I completely agree with. And I know I'm going to get a whole lot of crap for saying this, but Dig Your Own Hole is not up there with my favorite Chemical albums. The last three tracks on the album were the only ones I ever came back to. While Setting Sun and Block Rockin Beats are both quality tracks, in my opinion they don't come close to classics like Chico's Groove, Leave Home, Life Is Sweet, One Too Many Mornings, among others, or much of their more modern works like Surface To Air, Star Guitar, Marvo Ging, Das Spiegel, or Burst Generator. And despite my desires for them to make another Surrender, to hear a sequel to The Sunshine Underground, It's not going to happen. That glorious chapter in their musical career is over, and I've found I equally enjoy the Chemical Brother's unpredictability, because what ever they make, it's always new. I really like that in a band, and I hope their new album sounds nothing like anything I've ever heard. And don't get me worng, a throwback album would the absolute s***, too. Either way, whatever direction The Chemical Brothers take, it's going to sound awesome. I don't care if they do a polka album, it's The Chemical Brothers. You can't go wrong.

Nice Glako! That was a whirly-sized post, haha ;) It's threads like this that help remind me why I love this band, the fans (even if we all don't agree 100%, 100% of the time) and this forum.
It's nice to see that no matter what we can all agree on being excited about the new album.

i also think that you can hear their "roots" on every album. if you bring each of their album in the right context of time you always have 100% chemical sound.
exit planet dust (mid nineties hipster sound)
DYOH (big beat on it's peak)
surrender (welcome 2000 techno)
come with us (going deeper into druggy 00 years)
push the button (hello hiphop heads of mid 2000)
we are the night (good bye techno hello nurave/indie dance)
chem7 (straight into epic adult bass/noise/electronica)
or to say it in another way: chemicals are like red hot chilli peppers, dylan, beatles and so on...the lay their own sound over one music genre.

I remember the last time I tried to explain The Chemical Brother catalog, it ended up with me making flow chart shaped like Madonna's cone tits. ::Face Palm::

In saying that it all depends what moodim in. Ask me tomorrow and it could be surrender, sunshine underground . . .FUCK YEAH! anyway im rambling, they aint going back to the mid 90's sound. pity though.
