Electing rich bastards or neoliberal apologists won't change the game. we need to understand that only by working together (sanctioning and/or invading tax havens, de-privatization of commons, regulating flawed markets, arresting bankers) we can end this oligarchic hegemony and begin to form a proper democracy.

What's your take, folks?
In France, an unfortunate accumulation of factors resulted in FN getting 25% of voices:
Only 40% of people voted. If you bring that in the equation, the 25% of those 40% only represents 10%.
I would say people who vote FN ALL went voting. If it is the case, if everyone had voted, they would get something between 10 and 12% and would be "only" third...
So no, FN is not the first party of France, and no, there are not 25% of fascists in France (mind you, 10% seems way too much already...). I'm quite angry that 60% of French people "didn't care" and let that happen and I'm quite ashamed of the image we are sending to the rest of Europe right now...

I find it interesting that no one ever admits to voting them in either, well no one I know. Some idiots must have voted him in. It's an embarrassment.

What's up
It's been a while.
I was searching for something and had to google myself. Came across the 'california is going well' topic.
Still a lot of love for the chems and the forummembers.
We had some great times and great memories together.
Love always!

Maybe this forum isn't the best one to ask, but some of you Americans might know anyway.
I can't decide if it's funny or just plain embarrassing that a bunch of Garth Brooks concerts can end up high on the political/news agenda in Ireland. And I can't explain how a country the size of Ireland can snap up four hundred thousand tickets to see this guy live. Five consecutive nights. It almost merits being on the WTF thread.
Even U2 only managed three dates at this venue last time round.
Oh also, yes there is internet in Ireland so I don't know why there's a picture of people queueing in the street for tickets.

To my knowledge, yes, Garth Brooks is still popular. But I seriously haven't the faintest clue as to how popular he still is. I know that back in the 90s he had one of his concerts broadcast on NBC, one of the mainstream broadcast stations, during prime time. That spoke volumes as to his popularity.
I don't keep track of the country music scene--I hate it, for the most part. Listening to Johnny Cash and The Decemberists is the closest I come to enjoying country music. So I suppose I'm not the best resource to determine a particular artist's popularity. I do know, though, that the Stagecoach festival is still going strong, hilariously. ::shivers::

Only to find out that they cancelled it, just a couple of days ago. Personally I don't think enough people even knew of it's existence.
It seems that a lot of the artists had already arrived in London. Some are putting on their own gigs instead whilst others have been forbidden by ATP (All Tomorrow's Parties) for contractual reasons. Which seems harsh considering ATP were the ones who cancelled the event.
Personally I wanted to see Caribou, James Blake, Fuck Buttons (who admittedly I saw at The Forum a few months ago) and Perfect Pussy (yes it's a band!). Oh I Break Horses were due to play as well.
But none of those artists seem to be putting on their own gigs instead, which is a shame (except IBH - get down to Corsica studios NOW if you want to catch them last minute). Caribou doesn't go into details but has tweeted:

Meanwhile The Guardian suggests it wasn't a surprise ( I remember ATP cancelling their event at Alexandra Palace a year or so ago)

Strangely, I'm starting to grow a small legal practice here... And I say "strangely" because, well, this is something that I've wanted for so long that it's surreal to actually be where I am today. For years, literally, I have wanted to practice law, and fantasized about doing so while I was in law school and before.
Now I get to live my dream. SWEET.
In other news--looking forward to the Fall 2014 lineup of Shows That Andy Is Going To:
September: Simian Mobile Disco
October: Boys Noize, Tycho
November: Eric Prydz + Deadmau5 (maybe), Digitalsim
All is well when I have shows to look forward to... And one of these years I'm sure I'll go to Burning Man, which is happening right now as I write this...

You been hauling ass for awhile, and now you set yourself up pretty good for the future. Living the dream is one thing, but telling the story on how you got there is another! Atta boy!
Meanwhile...somewhere south of Los angeles,( you know this already)
I've been trying to get my ass out of my present company of almost 8 years, but I finally manage to land a new job, and so far I've been there for 2 weeks, and it's the most amazing group of people I ever worked with! I haven't been this happy since....since.....since! Oh whatever! You get the point!
As for your question, my cousin of 18 yrs died in his sleep! Been sad for the last couple of days, but I press on as usual and been pretty humble on what life has handed to me so far.
I been distant from music overall lately, but pryde vs deadmau5 looks good on paper. I heard hes spun some techno lately! Gotta look into that!
