should sound like somebody trying to strangle a roland 303. Think electronic music is after loosing something since the rise of software like ableton etc over hardwear like a big fuck off moog and the like. The tangible aspect of a synth right in front of you is easier to play around with and becomes a much more organic process. too many people now making music solely on laptops. Anyway im going off the point. Should be free flowing, creative and inspiring like all good chem albums are. Psychedelic, organic and not trying too much to fit with any one genre(despite my cravings for a DYOH 2!. less 4;4's, smidge more breaks, more aggression.
Oh ya do it again, not my fav single by the chems it must be said. Apparently they were going for a Timbaland/justin timberlake sound,(but thats what i heard on the net so could be bolox) Must say i kinda have a softspot for salmon dance. Anyway whatever it is it'll prob be excellent knowing the two lads.

I don't think the "rise of software" is something bad. Especially not Ableton. It's a wonderful tool, and it's made to work with hardware synths, more than any other software. It's an amazing creativity enhancer, you can do things with it that weren't possible or even imaginable a few years ago.
And some softsynths are really great and bring unprecedented possibilities. Massive, for example, is one of the first softsynth that's not a simple transposition of what a synthesiser could be, it's got features that wouldn't be possible on an hardware synth.

Ben j I have ableton myself and love it!! when its used properly (ie loadsa plug ins etc) its a fantastic piece of kit. Just pisses me off when too many artists these days just have a bank of copyright free synth samples and just throw a few on a track.its cut and paste electronica and not a true artistic endeavour. (god im full of shit!) When used correctly software is a godsend! Im not a technophobe!(you wouldnt find a 303 roaming the jungles like!) But you cant deny the tangible bonus of a big fuck off synth to tweek n prod and discover new sounds? This new mix Tom n Ed put up yesterday is excellent stuff.

Well, not all of us can afford a new or much less a good 'ol vintage synth. So software is a very nice and helpful addition in music production. Now almost everyone is able to create their own music - no restriction except your creativity! If the emulated synth and hardware sounds are different, that's another story.

I rent synths n borrow n steal! not paticularily loaded myself!! Anyway ultimatly it aint about what they use. Just like the certain sound the 303 gives out. God bless acid! Was thinking chem 7 was going to be a straight up psychedelic hard techno album. Now i'm not so sure listening to the tasty mix released yesterday. Their impossible to predict! Thats what makes em great!

@stardoktor : haha I love that vid. I actually just bought a Novation Super BassStation last week. It sounds awesome :)
@morning-lemon : don't worry, I love hardware too. There's nothing like turning an actual knob, doing random stuff that changes the sound endlessly :) Ableton made everything so much easier
