I've just finished Wet Wednesday.
I'm literally leaving as soon as i've typed this post.
I'm on my way to a friends, we're gonna have a few drinks, a smoke, goin home for 10 mins, then i'm headin on the Big Night Out with all my mates, one of whom is the dJ tonight, and he said he'll play 'Believe' for the simple reason that it's my night off and the funky bass. YESAY!!!
They don't like Chems in the local rock bar....
(this is my first night off in 3 weeks by the way!)

Slipvin Escribi:
Chemical Brothers isn't Techno music!
Bits are i would say. The chems are a hybrid of loads of dif types of dance form exmaple breaks, house, techno, acid and big beat. There music can fit into many types of dance and easily be played by a range of dj's palying different styles.

I think it depends on how you hear pop music, or how you wish to define it. The word popular (root word being pop, which we all know the definition of) in terms of music can apply to any musical genre if you think about it - The classical definition of popular means widely appreciated or liked.
In terms of top 40, I think it has a lot more to do with mass appeal and can mean something a bit more explosive as far as how it's received.
According to the freedictionary.com, pop music - music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love.
Though the above is simplisitic def. with a negative connotation - it's what we tend to associate pop music with. Going by that, the Chems don't fit the bill. I don't see them as pop artists but that's just my opinion.
Again, all in how you want to look at it.

Wow, didn't mean the Chems were Techno, tho they do have some elements.I just couldn't think of a proper title for the thread, which i posted in the wrong place anyway. i was just listening to the 2many dj's album when i was writing it.
But anyway, i'm even more tired now cos i'm so hungover, :'( and my back didn't appreciate me twisting like a lunatic to EBW5,6&7 at 4am and then passing out on the edge of the couch. 8O
Not to mention my day boss wondering why my face was hanging out the bottom of my shirt today!
it was a long three weeks, but i fuckin did it! only 2days to go and i'll be back to one job. phew.
Anyhoo, i'll be back tomorro.[/img]

i have one question: why is pop music bad? i mean, you can find crap in every genre of music. there is junk techno and good techno. there is good country and annoying country. it all depends on the musical touch of the pieces and in which state of mind you are when you are listening.
many people have the wrong idea that as soon as enough consumers are impressed by a certain song (and it becomes "pop") it also becomes bad, or like "with the flow" if you know what im saying.
as TryptaJunk mentioned in a different thread, briteney spears makes good progress, and that is not because she is half naked in her videos and is stupid but because she has the right people to write her music. and if the chems are popular we should be glad as a community or whatever and not complain about them and call them "pop" in a wrong way.

Ofcourse when i say pop i mean popular and catchy music. I mean no disrespect to their music. I like the way their music is and now i feel bad for labeling them as pop. I really never touch the issue of which genre the music fits(esp with chems) and i do agree with jcm's point aswell.
