message behind the ?Hey girl Hey?? video

I finally realized the meaning and general message behind the ?Hey girl Hey?? video. It was a realization just like the girl in the video got when she received the powers to see bones. But this is not a power, in fact it happens to most of us, the realization of what we really are on earth and the realization of the simplicity of the human creature. Just as I realized that we are simply walking bones which came from nothing and will return to nothing. This realization is difficult to express in words but its effect is clearly depicted by the girl in the video. She acts alien because it?s a mystery and wonder. The wonder is trying to solve what are all these bones doing. Sounds simple but its not. What was once so easily created and massed has little relevance to anything but to exist for the sake of existing. If this hits you, you too will start seeing some people as bones. If you do, call me! I have another more important message that will change your life. >> butterjump@hotmail.com

Thats an interesting interpretation of that video. I can see the symbolism behind the images. I wonder if the video concept was from the bro's or the director. I don't know too much about how involved they are in making their videos but i love every one of them!

Thats a very interesting interpetation indeed. I never really looked at it that way. I know what you mean by : the realization of what we really are on earth and the realization of the simplicity of the human creature.
Sometimes i have this...how can i explain it. It's like this feeling that's not even 1 second , and suddenly you realize .. fuck how doe i say thhis in english. its like for 1 second i understand everything. The world , the Human creature. It's like this fllash that everything seems clear to me. Offcourse it's not but i just get that feeling. Wish it would last longer though ;)
This doesnt really makes sense does it ?! hehehe

Heh, I know exactly what you're talking about. It's like your mind is completely open to the universe and you get a glimpse of the truth, but only for a second. And then you lose it... and you can't make logical sense of it or anything because it's a feeling and not a thought. I think that's why I like the Chemical Brothers so much, because alot of their music seems to give me similar feelings.
When you see them play live you will get that feeling many times throughout the set. That's why i don't think they are human, because throughout their whole set you get this feeling it's like they're trying to give you some kind of higher understanding of the world through their music. So many times you're looking up at them and somehow everything makes sense. Like when the beat kicks in TPPR, and you feel like you understand exactly why you're here, and you're thinking "these guys aren't human, they are prophets or gods or something"...

This is a really nice reply and it's good for me to see that what i said actually makes sense. But yeah , you said exactly what i wanted to say. And it's funny you mentioned the Chems music , because when i listen to , for example , Surface to Air , it's weird but it seems like i understand the world , and my life....that what i wrote in the Thread " Music can be a Medicine"
I also have the same when i'm in a great place. I've been to Tokyo for a while and there i had it a lot , just this realisation ( I dont know if this is a official word :p ) of " Whoow , i'm in fucking Tokyo " and you see yourself as this smal person in this big world. It's weird to explain.

That's a pretty cool interpretation, camper - welcome!
This is definitely a "deep thoughts" sort of thread!
Jeanie, you're making perfect sense to me, I understand how hard it is to explain this stuff.
In regards to the Hey Boy Hey Girl viddy, I've always thought it more a trippy sort of video really... based somewhat on your perception changing (could be from music, could be from drugs, could be from that moment in time where for an split instant you understand the meaning of the universe) brought on by a situation that triggers a past event - one that's been buried in your subconscious for quite some time.
Got to laugh at Afro88's comment that the Chems aren't human - my husband's gonna love that one! ;)
But I think the Chems strive to alter people's perception through music, change the listener's mood at will. And I think they can do this because they realize the emotional and physical power music can have on people, how it can change peoples' minds and hearts. To me that's what makes their music so human. I think this can be true for any band where the music really connects with their audience, it's all a matter of personal taste. But back to the Chems- I think they are able to achieve what they do because at the very least, they are music fans - it was music that brought them together in the first place, and music that's kept them going for this long, and as they are now older and more the wise for the world, they can draw purely on what drives themselves . I know for me they've changed the way I listen to music and I think it's fair to say they've had the same effect on people here (or else, why would we all be here wasting time on a Sunday talking about the Chems! ;) ) Or maybe I'm just looking into this too deeply. hehehe.
Like I've said before, the Chems know what they are doing, and they are damn good at it.

You've got to read Afro88's response to this thread in the Chemical Sets forum! It'll crack you up!
I think camper just figured out the meaning of the universe, and he's very excited to share with us all by using every means (forum) possible!

Jeanie: I know what you mean. Sometimes at night when there's a clear sky and you're with some good mates at the beach or something and you look up at the stars, and you think how each star is a sun, some very likely with planets like ours, it puts things back into perspective. I'm sure when I go over seas and visit places like London, Tokyo, Amsterdam etc. I'll probably feel the same way.
Regarding Chems and their music, I agree with Whirly, they know exactly how their music affects people, and how to make the most of that. I think it's great that they're getting political, because their music has the power to make you think "this makes perfect sense", and now they're going "world, the time has come to galvanize" at the same time. It sure made me think about my place in the world and what I can do.

I love your interpretation of the video camper. my own thoughts were similar. I remember the first time is saw the chems, they were djing in nottingham at a club called the bomb!i was 15, and i remember vividly thinking to myself. This is it!!!!!!i have arrived!this is the music i want to listen to forever and a day. ANYWAY they played this tune,it had the vocal "life is just a game.we are all just the same" this is the concept that i apply to the hey boy hey girl video. No matter what people may think their status is in life etc etc etc Underneath we are all jus the same, BONES. and i think its important that people remember this, especially when some people think they are better than others because of their clothes etc etc etc under the skin wat does it matter. Also the shots in the club show a vision of like togetherness on the dancefloor, every1 just on the same fucked up vibe, feeling it.
this is my twisted perception of it anyway.lol. its probably not as deep as every1 else's but hearing that tune wen i first saw them affected me forever, i wrote it all over my school books."life is just a game..." its true tho.
