Thanks for the tip! I'll see if I can find my way there as I've never been to Berlin (or anywhere in Germany except Frankfurt airport) before. Sadly I've only got four weeks off and can't change the timing anymore.

That's pretty damn cool!
I remember watching the very first shuttle launch (on television, of course) and it's just one of those things you never forget.
Have fun!!

It is very cool! I managed to catch one whilst on holiday a few years ago - on the 3rd attempt because of weather issues, so hopefully you won't have any of those. Not sure if you have a spot lined up, but I'd recommend going to the old VIP viewing area at the entrance to Cape Canaveral (here - http://tinyurl.com/62n6rzo) - gives you a perfect view, and not as crowded as Titusville. Get there early to avoid the traffic on the I95 as well. Enjoy!

Missed your advice, but getting there and finding a spot went without a hitch. We got to Titusville at around 7-7:30. Landed a perfect spot right on the coast, in front of an old condo. Great view too. We got really lucky, about 20 minutes later people were claiming property right and left, charging up to $40 for parking!
Weather was good. Cloudy and windy, but not enough to cancel a launch or make it chilly or wet to stand out side. Temperature was perfect, not too humid. Excellent compared to the 45°F we're getting back in Middle Of Nowhere, IN.
There were about five families around us (it was very uncrowded where we were, really an excellent spot). Next to us was a slightly confused old man and his Korean wife. She spoke broken english, and was very nice and very funny. She even went and brought us donuts! Needless to say, waiting for hours wasn't boring.
But, the news came in at around noon - the lunch had been scrubbed! Not due to weather though. One of the heating system on one of the power units wasn't responding, it isn't a serious problem and a mission can go on without it, but obviously saftey is first. This pushes the launch time back to Monday, 2:33 PM, if the problem is minor. If not it could be set back over a week...
So we're deciding if we should stay or just go home, since the launch date's really up in the air and there's no knowing if Monday will happen. It's nice to be in Florida though. might go to disney world tommorrow...
p.s.
I was up early enough, so I ended up catching a bit of the Royal Wedding, they had it on in the hotel breakfast room. I visted this website afterwards, which helped my understand it better: WhyAmericansShouldCareAboutTheRoyalWedding.com

Spent a near perfect day in Universal Studio's Resort today. That really is a brilliant park, the rides are awesomely engineered and the themeing is top of the line. The place was empty too, the longest lines we had were just 20 min. The first coaster we went on was this "music" coaster which allowed you to pick from 36 different songs to soundtrack your ride. Surprisingly, there was an electronica/club genre along with the other genres, represented of course by Harder Better Faster Stronger, two Crystal Method tracks, M.A.R.R.S. , and two others I didn't recognize. Ended up going with CM's Keep Hope Alive. It didn't matter anyway, the music was so quiet you couldn't hear it. But the coaster itself was a ton of fun.
The Mummy coaster was especially cool. Great overall themeing. You went backwards and forwards on this one, but it was still a proper coaster. Steam would fly out at you with red lighting, simulating fire, and giant projections flew around everywhere. Totally wild ride.
But the best one, bar none, was the new Pothead ride. I still can't get it out of my head. It would merge seamlessly in and out of reality and these incredible screens. The screens surrounded your entire field of vision, they weren't flat, but like a sphere cut in half - you could see the grounds of Hogwarts flying past at blistering speeds beneath you as you followed Harry on his broomstick though a mad run away from a loose dragon. He'd fly into the forbidden forest, then all of a sudden you'd fly out from the screen, into reality and be right inside the forbidden forest yourself, crashing through trees and branches. The props/animatronics were astoundingly in your face, just out of reach but enough to stir you in your seat. Spiders dropped down and sprayed you. Hermione would appear, as a projection that looked so real you'd swear Emma Watson was right there, guiding you in the right direction, then all of a sudden you're back in front of a screen, flying out on the Quidditch field with Harry as he battles Malfoy for the Snitch. It was so realistic, so immersive. I was grinning like a flipping idiot the whole time. <- this
If you ever go down there you need to ride this thing. Here's a sucky video to get the gist of it, but it's something you have to experience in person. Coolest thing ever.
And, it looks like we're staying through Monday. Launch looks good, odds are it'll work this time! I hope!
