Mojito

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ingredients:

2-3 oz Light rum

Juice of 1 Lime (1 oz)

2 tsp Sugar

2-4 Mint sprigs

Soda water

Mixing instructions:

Lightly muddle the mint and sugar with a splash of soda water in a mixing glass until the sugar dissolve and you smell the mint. Squeeze the lime into the glass, add rum and shake with ice. Strain over cracked ice in a highball glass. Top with soda water, garnish with mint sprig and serve.

post one :

Ok so the show was BRILLIANT!!!!

i won the tickets so they were free.. but i would have paid the 40+ quid for either Flaming Lips or Massive Attack alone.. and Pharell wad brilliant too.

There were around 4 or 5 stages all around Hyde Park.. loads of rides and food stalls and some cool places to chill out (including the Blueroom)... went on one of the scariest fucking rides of my life... spinning and swinging at the same time.. in the beginning everyone was like 'whoo hooo' .. but then it got faster and faster and i could see the terro in everyone's face.

so anyway,.. Gnarls Barkley hit the Main stage.. and they were pretty good. DJ Danger Mouse was great. but Cee-lo's voice is a bit annoying. but the whole of Hyde Park sang along to "Crazy"!

we walked around a bit and checked out the other stages.. there was a lto happening! realised that Damian Marley and DJ Shadow were on one of the smalled stages..

i'll try to keep it short..

Pharell came on stage and his set was fuckign awesome!!! sound was kick ass and he had tha same synthy fuzzy bass sound on the N.E.R.D albums (i'm a NERD fan and of the Neptunes as producers).. and he played a lot of N.E.R.D songs and other songs he's written (which is a LOT... eg: he wrote 'Milkshake' by Kelis.. Nelly's 'Hot in Here', Brittany Spears 'Slave for you' etc..). he played 'Drop it like its hot', 'hot in here' (and all the girls were singing the 'i am getting so hot..' part.. haha) and did a cover of 'another one bites the dust'.. but his set was bloody entertaining.. he's 33 and he's done so much in the industry... pretty inspiring!

anyway, so me and my mate tried to cacth Damian Marley's set but the other stage was packed and we saw a few songs and left back to the Main stage for the Flaming Lips! i thought Pharell was good, the Flaming Lips put on one of the best shows iv seen!! Wayne Coyne is such a genius! in the beginning fo the show he was inside a giant rubber Bubble.. and they chucked him onto the crowd. so he was surfing the crowd inside this rubber ball.. it was awesome!

they played a lot of newer stuff (from 'Soft Bulletin' "Yomshimi..' and 'At War with the mystics' albums..) and everyone was singing! i fucked my throat singing along! they even did the cover of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' that hey did for the Queen tribute album.. it was brilliant! Wayne really knows how to interact with the crowd in an intellectual way..

then we ran to the other stage to catch DJ Shadow.. but it was jam packed.. i managed to get a bit closer.. it was awesome. he played many songs off the 'Entroducing..' album.

then we rushed back to get a good spot fro Massive Attack. me and my mate had a lot of pot, so we made a lot of friends.. hehe.

i think i would definitely have paid 40 quid for MA alone.. they played a longer set cos they were headlining (about two hours.. the others played for about an hour). all the songs i wanted to hear.. and a lot of stuff off Mezzanine. 'teardrop', 'angel' 'inertia creeps', etc.. sonically brilliant!

anyway, all in all one the best evenings ever! i'll post pics when i get the time!

post two, sometime later :

the Flaming Lips.. check out the santas and robots. there were aliens on the other half of the stage and midgets dressed as super heroes:

Massive Attack come on stage:

Massive Attack when it got darker:

post three, on some more questionin :

well, its summer here and the sun sets only at around 10 pm.. so Massive Attack started their set while the sun was setting and then it got dark...

i don;t really remember the exact setlist. but they played a lot off Mezzanine and Blue Lines.. and very few off 100th Window and Protection. they also played the new single off the greatest hits album. but overall it was like a Mezzanine/Blue Lines tour which was great cos those are my fav MA albums.

anyway, so Massive Attack came on and Rob Del Naja says "we were promised darkness or atleast dusk..." referring to the sun being out at 9 pm.

Dell Naja and Grant Marshall started with "Risingson"..

then Horace Andy came on and they did a few tracks.. they did "Angel" later on and Horace Andy sang it and it sounded perfect.. i always thought it was a chick who sang that song but when i got home i checked my cd booklet and yup.. he sings it. he has such an amzing voice.

Elizabeth Fraser came out and did "Teardrop".. as soon as she came on stage everyone knew it was gonna be that track... it was fucking amazing.. and right after they did "Inertia Creeps" (my fav track MA track). it was so awesome i wanted to weep.

anyway.. they did lots of others.. don;t remember the order.. but they did "unfinished sympathy" and "safe from harm" with Shara Nelson on vocals.. "dissolved girl" and loads of others. i just can;t remember right now. people in the audinece were flying high.. loads of pot, coke, mushies and e's going around. i was in some other dimension... that's why i can;t remember what songs they played too well or the order. it all felt like one long aweosome dream..

post four :

The Flaming Lips were something else...

have always wanted to see these guys live. I remember ages ago when that track "She don't use jelly" used to come on MTV in the US when i lived there.. Only started listening to them seriously during the "Soft Bulletin"/"Yoshimi..." days. i also checked out their new album..

they had one of the most fun and crazy shows ever.. they re known for their lively and bizarre stage act. they have it all.. midgets dressed up like superman, cpatain american and other super heroes, loads of people dressed as santa claus, loads of people in alien costumes.. giant robots..

just the way Wayne started the gig was insane!! such a brilliant idea to surf the crowd in the rubber bubble... there were loads of balloons and lots of streamers and stuff constantly being shot off the stage with a gun...

i don't think they did a Chemical brothers track although the did one or two songs that i hadn't heard before so its possible. but almost everything was off Soft Bulletin/Yoshimi/At War... albums. plus the Queen cover.. i was hoping they'd do the 'War Pigs' cover they do sometimes. that would have been totally wicked considering the crowd there..

but they started with 'Race for a Prize' and then did the 'Yeah yeah yeah song'. .. 'Yoshimi pt. 1', 'do you realise'...' waiting for a superman'..

and many many more..

i was half hoping they'd do "She don;t use jelly".. and REALLy hoped they;d play "Buggin'" one of my fav FL songs.. but they didnt!

but still it was a fantastic show and i'm so glad i got to see them..

Wayne is such a chilled out guy... it would have been spectacular to watch the Flaming Lips when they supported Beck on the "Sea Change" tour.. that would ve been a dream come true cos Beck is one of my all-time favourite artists! but thanks to YouTube i could watch a few videos from the Austin City Limits show.

post five :

some more pics..

wayne throwing some streamers into the crowd while Flaming Lips' equipment was being set up the stage..

FUCK. I wanna see this gig.
