The version I downloaded ("Brixton Beats") has everything in a slightly higher key than normal.

I think we're talking about different bootlegs, Champi. The one on the server is just "[Live 1996] Brixton Academy]".

By the way, I just uploaded the 14th Century Sky EP, all FLACs, with zero vinyl pops - virtually perfect quality. So, Ben_J, you might want to get around to cleaning up the upload folder sometime soon.

It's amazing - if there ever was a digital release, this would be it. I've had Dope Coil on repeat for a long time!

I recently bought a turntable and am copying all the old vinyls I have to disc. I ran a few different filters to remove the pops but I don't trust them, it sounded like they were taking some of the high end off, so I left the pops there. You can only hear them in the quiet bits anyway and sort of adds to the character.

I would be happy to upload them if I can get access. I sent Ben_J an email a while ago but haven't heard anything.

96 - Brixton is sort of an expanded version of Liecester - same thing, but with DYOH songs in there too. And it's good quality.

Brixton Academy isn't sped up. Where did that come from?

It is, one of the version that was on the net was slowed down (probably recorded on a tape, then transfered digitally, but with a somehow deficient tape player that played the casette slower), so someone sped it up to make it sound normal.

I'm thinking about getting a dedicated server to relocate the FTP.
OVH have cheap and nice offers, for something like 10€ per month (with a small configurarion : Intel Atom, 512MB RAM...). The advantages would be that you'd have a much faster download rate. The disadvantages would be the cost for me, of course, and the space, limited to 20GB (or 30 if I pay 2€ more, 40 for 4€ more, etc...). For the moment what's on the FTP is only 6.6GB, but with bigger bandwidth I could put videos on the FTP... There's also something that could cause a problem : OVH might not like me to have that kind of stuff on the server...

I know you don't know me very well Ben_J but I design and host websites for a living. I would be happy to set up an account for you on one of the servers that I own space on. I could probably give you 10-12Gb on a US server. I also have 6Gb on a UK server but that wouldn't be enough. I also have space on an Aus server but that is a bit more expensive and I could probably only spare 10Gb there too. The Aus one is the fastest, followed by the US one, followed by the UK one. Be happy to do it for nothing. I have to pay for it anyway so no problem for me. I can set up a cPanel for you and then you can have total control of it. Let me know if you're interested and I will send you the details.

P.S. I can guarantee not to pull the plug on your space for at least 4 years, I am paid up that far ahead.

It could be interesting ! How fast are the US servers ? Would I get an ssh access and if yes, what OS is on it ?

The host says it will provide ssh access on request so that should be OK to organise. It is a Linux server, connection is via 19 x OC48 (1000Mbps/each) connections from 10 different providers. Dual Quad Core Xeon Processor, 16GB RAM, 8 x SAS Hard Drives in RAID 10 etc... You would have cPanel access that gives you a lot of control of the space.

It is easy for me to set up an account, you can have a play with it, upload and download a few files. Hopefully it will suit. If it's no good, no problem. Worth a try?

I need to use a domain name to set up the account. You don't need to use the domain name once the account is set up, you can access it via the IP. What domain name do you want me to use on the account? I may register it for you anyway.

P.S. Not sure if you want to head this direction, and I couldn't do it in a hurry, but I could probably set up a database and a few web pages where people can either download the files, or stream them online. Would make it much easier for them. I could password them too if you don't want it public. Just a thought ...

It sounds very good ! I will give it a think. Meanwhile, I'm gonna set up a webFTP tonight, so that non-computer friendly people can access it more easily.

EDIT : dunno why but the webFTP is super slow on my server, so I don't think it will be usable. I'll dig furher to try to understand why it is so slow.

Perhaps you are wondering about my reliability? I will guarantee you 4 years access for free. I have a resellers account so you will have exactly the same access as if you were paying the company for your own account. If there are any problems then you will have me to fix it, and I fix things fast ... well as fast as possible.

Perhaps you are wondering about my motive? I do have a motive, to get access to your files as I don't at the moment. But the main motive is to get more involved with this community of fans. If I can help out in this, I will feel good.

I will say no more, email me if you want to try it out.

That's OK, my emails tend to get junked a lot. But that was really only a minor part of my motive

So, it's actually working. I just had to use passive mode for connection :)

So from now on, you can access the FTP directly from http://sbrk.hd.free.fr/ and you don't need to have an FTP Client to access the site anymore.

All you have to do is type in your username and password and check "passive mode".

For some reason the site doesn't seem to display right on Chrome. But I'll make a nice template anyway, and I will also make the login form limited to login and password, so you don't have to bother about the other useless fields.

Just thought I'd interject here. This thread is a prime example of why I love Chemical Brothers fans so much. You guys rock! And Thanks!

I haven't accessed the FTP in a long time but will try giving it a go this weekend.
