Fair point if you dislike the songs themselves, but it is probably the best sounding album since a long time in terms of mixing and mastering.

I can't discuss this album with you anymore, it's clear we have opposite opinions on this album. If you want to believe this album is some sort of masterpiece, by all means enjoy the shit out of it.
If it makes you feel better, in terms of the album's target audience, my opinion is in the minority.

Ha Ha.
I dont think the chems would tbh. I'm sure they've had plenty of offers in the past to produce the latest twerking pop stars album. Closest was remixing Kylies track (which was seen as one of her "indie" ones) but thats it.

Poor argument too be honest. It just proove you don't know a shit about what you are talking about.
You can enjoy a painting whatever its frame is because the painting and the frame are not correlated. A beautiful frame won't make an ugly painting pretty, a mindblowing painting won't be ruined by an awful frame either.
It doesn't work the same with audio since mixing and mastering are two crucial part of music production. You basically cannot enjoy a song if it hasn't been mixed and mastered proprely whatever the quality of the song.
I'm affraid you're getting confused by your personnal tastes here. As I said earlier, it's fine if this album doesn't do it for you. But there's a reason why this album has been acclaimed by so many mastering engineers.
I have never considered this album as a real masterpiece, I do enjoy a couple of songs. I guess you guys were expected an other mindblowing electronic album. (Un)fortunatelly it's not. That's why you're facing a disapointment. Fair enough.
I'd rather see daft punk going into live band and good quality funk music rather than the chems going into shitty-mainstream-electronic-music like nothing but pleasure. I'm sure they won't though.

The live performance of Das Speigal from The Concourse 2007 is one of my favorite sounds from The Chemical Brothers ever, and it was hand recorded, far from proper mastering.

Can someone please explain to me how Nothing But Pleasure is mainstream? Compared to stuff like SHM, Guetta, Avicii, Nothing But Pleasure is utterly inaccessible.
For the record I'm half a fan of RAM. There's brilliant tracks on there (Moroder, Motherboard, Doin It Right, Contact) and terrible tracks on there (Within, Instant Crush, Beyond) and a lot of forgettable, mediocre songs. But I do agree with Pooter. It doesn't (always) matter how well mixed and mastered something is - a turd polished a thousand times is still just a turd, no matter how shiny. Execution is valuable, but nothing without quality art behind it.

Would you expect any freshly released record to sounds that bad? My point is about records, not hand recorded live performance of songs you already know. Plus you're a chemical brothers hardcore fan, it doesn't count

Did I say the opposite? As far as I know I didn't. Is my english so bad that you can't get my point?
I'm not talking about quality art here, I'm pointing out how good this record sounds compared to today's standards. It sounds punchy, groovy, with a perfect balance between the low end and the top end and it has a quite good dynamic range. That's what I'm refering to. Am I making it clear now?
Comparing Edith Piaf to RAM is pure non sens. You wouldn't mix or master any of their songs in the same way.

Those guys are not even producing music to me. Seeing Nothing but pleasure being integrated to a twomanydj's setlist is enough for me to call it mainstream electronic music.

I didn't know I was making an argument here! I think you're confusing a debate with a metaphor. If you want to take a moment to explain how the metaphor proves that I don't know what I'm talking about, please do. Otherwise, you're failing to connect this baseless claim to anything I was actually talking about in that one sentence.

So let me understand this: Poor mixing and mastering = impossible to enjoy. How did people enjoy music prior to the introduction of modern mixing and mastering techniques?
It's interesting that initially you say that I have a "poor argument," yet you've taken the time to write out this rather lengthy post to try to attack it. And then you fail. I love that the argument that I wasn't trying to make actually ended up being one that, at least, was better than yours.

I'm certainly not confused by my personal taste in music--I know what I like and I know what I don't like, and I give things a fair chance. And when the "mastering engineers" acclaim an album that isn't boring as shit, I'll cheer right along with them.
Bouh, on 08 September 2013 - 7:43 AM, said:
Oh good. You ended up agreeing with me. I love it when this happens. Someone starts arguing with me over an argument I didn't make that I end up winning. I knew this whole "lawyer" thing was for me.

This is a very good example of someone making a statement that indicates they have very little idea of what they're talking about because there is evidence of the lack of knowledge within the statement. Here, you suggest that "the Chems" have gone into "shitty-mainstream-electronic-music" because they produced the track "Nothing But Pleasure." There are two things wrong with this statement:
1. This was not a track produced by the Chemical Brothers. This was a track produced by Tom Rowlands of the Chemical Brothers. Sure, it obviously has some of the Chemical Brothers' signature sound to it because it was produced by one of the duo, but it was a solo release only, or else we would have read about the two of them producing the track together.
2. Have you heard current mainstream electronic music? It sounds *nothing* like Nothing But Pleasure. Check out Knife Party, for instance. This is an example of what the kids call "dub step," and it is a very nicely polished turd, much like the Daft Punk album we've spent so much time talking about. Need more examples? Check out this collaboration by Tommy Trash & A-Trak. FYI--Deadmau5 released this track in 15 different versions over his last three albums. (though I rather enjoy Deadmau5, in all honesty)
The suggestion of the Chems music aside, I think Daft Punk going straight-up live would be boring as shit. The thing I absolutely *love* about electronic music is its ability to combine otherwise-unproducable and sometimes-unlistenable sounds in a way that flows and creates a beautiful, aesthetic journey that doesn't stop once it starts. Daft Punk did it on their Alive 1997 + 2007 albums. For them to ditch that would be, to use the cliche, the final nail in the coffin.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my one line as much as you did! I wish you luck in your future endeavors of creating debate where non exists. Maybe next time you'll be more successful. Cheers!

Oh yeah, now that makes sense, thanks for clearing that up. It is a fantastically well produced album, I agree.

toomanydj's aren't mainstream.
A mainstream DJ dropping a song doesn't make the song mainstream.
Being mainstream doesn't make a song bad.
