Caught me by surprise! They usually put out the lineup around next week, but what I guess they got the jump on us! Sunday looks very good, Saturday not really, and Friday....hmmm!

How funny. I'd read an article yesterday about At The Drive-In will reunite and now they are already on the first festival lineup. But i'm suprised Refused are also back together. Both are on my list of favourite bands.

Since Radiohead is playing a week before right by my house I'm going to say "M'eh"

I thought Deerhunter was playing at first, but then I realized it is another band called the deer hunter.

Snoop and Dre would be cool. But Snoop come to Santa Cruz a lot, presumably to pick up herb. I wish Mazzy Star did the same, does Hope smoke dope?

Seeing Noel do a show with birds might be rad? Your life will never be the same after you've seen a man juggle parrots.

Where are they playing?? I'd like to see them again, but I'm decidedly busy this semester and kinda broke... But things might come together!!

I know it sounds dorky and die-hard in the fanatical sense but I'd feel weird going to Coachella unless the Chems were playing, hahaha.! I've only gone there when the Chemical Brothers play. They kind of define that festival for me.

Would be cool to see Kasabian and M83 again, as well as Mazzy Star though. Kaiser Chiefs and Goodspeed... might be fun too. I'm not super enthused with the line up though. Certainly not enough to shell out that kind of money for my family and I to spend a weekend out in the desert amongst the unwashed masses. Chems aside is it just me or does it seem a bit lacking?

Maybe I'm just old.

I can't believe this festival is going ahead with the 2-weekend thing. I'm a bit skeptical.

Trying to bag a hotel!

If I get one, I could buy some more time to think if I want to go! Sunday rules, but Friday and Saturday is an issue! I'm old too because these days, I don't follow the current trends in music like I use to back then! So some of the names on the 2012 lineup im familiar with, but most of them I'm not familliar with!

I usually go through the line-up for each day and youtube the names of artists or bands (that I never heard of) that are playing! For example, let's look at Friday: I'm familiar with 1/4 of the line up, but I never heard of the band Explosions of the Sky, So I investigated them...

I'm sold!

I guess the point I'm making is just because you never heard of this band or that band, doesn't mean you totally justify that a whole day of music is a waste of time. You gotta explore what's beyond and whats new in music that you don't normally listen to. Just one listen to one song can change your entire attitude of being a new fan and a frequent concert-goer!

I get what you're saying man. Exploration is good. And I credit part of my fandom to the Chems for experiencing them live for the first time at this festival. If it were just me that's one thing and would probably consider going every year. But for me it always boils down to money, and how my family prefers to spend it. A weekend in Coachella at my pleading and insistance, or 3 -4 package deals to other weekend destinations throughout the year for some family r&r. (strong case for marriage, eh? ;) ) It's OK though. Because it's just one year. Coachella's going strong and there will be other opportunities out on the horizon.

I read on Kotaku of all places that Refused is reuniting for Coachella (and Way Out West). It got me on a weird track to listen to there stuff, then to the Hives, then to Mount Kimbie, then to Moloko.....

How the hell did a Video Game influence what I am listening to that could be considered mainstream. Still better then some run of the mill VG symphonic soundtracks.

As for the rest of the lineup. No huge draws for me. I would like to see Pulp one day. I know that it won't be in the mid '90s style where they could bring many a woman and man to their knees swooning over Jarvis (didn't matter if you were straight or gay). One interesting thing would to see Jaques Lu Cont minus crazy Madge. I know he has done mostly producing over the last few years.

There are alot I would love to see again or for the first time. Flying Lotus (particularly if he still has Dorian Concept on the keys), SBTRKT, Seun Kuti.

I'm looking at going, probably the second weekend. I've got a few Irish lads from another forum I'm on that I've met up with in England and Vancouver that are contemplating going. So they're going to decide in the next day or two and let me know. We'd be camping though which would be a Coachella first for me and both scares and excites me.

Oh man... roughing it after quite the comfortable stay at the Resort. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!?!

I'm jealous, though--I'd love to go but nothing is telling me to go.

The Chems are really a starting point for a lot of us to go to coachella. It's hard to look at the listings and be enthusiastic. Usually going to coachella is all about seeing the chem and killing time in between (thank you, mumford & sons, cut/copy, et al).

Well, if you ask me, you HAVE to go there just to see Amon Tobin if you can :) And Radiohead is pretty big too.

If a lot of forumites (I'm looking at you pooter and whirly) were going, I'd probably succumb to pressure. But since I'm getting married in may, I'd really have to stretch my budget to make it work.

Sure! Why not? You only get married once, right?
