In a side bar it mentions the Utah Teapot being used in HomerĀ³, Monsters Inc., and Toy Story. Automatically it made me think of the exploding Teapot from the live sets. After reading up on the idea of the animation of the Utah Teapot (Another Link) I started to think how much other math and nerdy stuff is associated with the work of T&E. I read back to Whirly's review of the Adam Smith Q&A for Don't Think where stash/Jim asks about the Teapot.
Quote
He first thanked him, then asked whose idea it was to put the exploding teapot in the show, and why. He always wanted to know what was up with that, so it was a golden opportunity. We think the question might have kind of stumped Adam, hahaha! He said he liked the idea of an ordinary object put in an extraordinary situation, which produces an explosive and very unexpected result. I mean, when we are ate Chems show and we see the teapot, we know what's going to happen. And when it happens, we go apeshit. I mean, it's just an exploding teapot, right? But it gets us going all apeshit every time!
The Teapot itself looks very real. Even I'm not sure if it is animation or a real life teapot Adam Smith and the boys decided to wreak havoc on. My question now would be 'Is the Exploding Teapot part of a big math nerd joke?'
And before you ask, Yes, I am probably overthinking this.
And just to remind you of the brilliance of the teapot, one last link (Final Link)
