I'd argue the cher track made that autotune robo effect popular chap - proper vocoder action was def an 80's thing - electro stylee....roger troutman/zapp etc

my fave vocoder trax:

zapp - more bounce to the ounce

I.F - space invaders are smoking grass

freestye - stop the rock (is that the title who knows)
