Apparently it hit 39 Celsius (102 Fahrenheit) with the humidex today. Didn't feel THAT warm to me on the couple occasions I went outside.

What is my fascination with the weather anyways? Sooner or later I'm going to start a My Weather thread out of sheer boredom...

I have a funny fasination with weather also (not really during winter). In summer everyday i'm checking out 7 day forcasts to see all the changes they make to it during the week. Its funny when they perdict the weather is going to be at 25 degrees and then rises to 37 during the week.

There hasn't really been a warmish day in weeks...i bet this will go as the coldest winter ever recoreded ( i think they have already mentioned it somewhere)...every year records always seemed to be topped
its a little early but thanks anyway

It's fire season in Southern California. The weather has been so incredibly hot and dry, everything is prone to go up like a book of matches. This new one spells disaster and the pics don't quite show just how big this fucker is.

I-10 Eastbound between Los Angeles and Palm Springs? Surreal stretch of Interstate, if you ask me. The wind generators are imposing, impressive, and trippy. Great place to set a music video, if you ask me.

It's also fire season here and camping/travelling is banned in parts of Eastern Manitoba due to fire fears. Although our fire season usually isn't as bad as that of SoCal.

Hah! Fire season eh?

Well we dont get that in Ireland, only on the 12th of July when all the protestants get together to burn down a tower of shit to comemorate for the battle they won years ago. Quite scary for tourists and for the emergency services if ya ask me..

Yeah, we get quite a few fires in the summer and fall. We also have these winds called the Santa Ana's, and it just blows hot, dry heat all over the place. It scares me, where I live - backed right up against a wild green belt area that's just ripe for fires. When those winds kick up, a small fire quickly gets out of hand. It's going to be rough this time around - we had a lot of rain this past winter, more than usual and everything was green and lush. But all that lushness is dried up and dead, like a book of matches waiting to be struck.

The worst fires that ever happened that were close to me were the fires in Laguna Beach in 1993. It was arson and it was really devastating to the city, lots of people lost homes. About a year or so later we had a lot of unexpected rain, something like 4 inches in 2 hours which is completely nuts because we never get that much rain in one go - and our drainage systems just aren't made for that sort of thing and nobody was prepared. Plus all the underbrush in the canyon areas scorched a year before from the fires didn't help because there was nothing to soak up all that water. Mud just washed in from everywhere, overflowing the already clogged drains. stash and I lived right downtown, watching everything get flooded and muddy, plenty of havoc because S. Californians don't know what the hell to do when we actually have weather - it was really surreal!

There are basically 2 seasons in Southern California - fire and flood.

(How bored am I to be talking about weather/natural disasters!!)

Well, living in the city with the craziest weather in the country would tend to do that I guess. :-D

I just heard about the State Of Emergency declared in Southern California by Arnie. :( Damn I hate fires, we get alot of bad ones here too and they are always really terrifying.

Same here. Winter (which lasts nearly 8 months) and mosquitos/construction, with maybe a brief interlude of flood.

I remember one in Australia a couple years back that was really horribe because a Koala habitat was hit. :(

Right now there's fire burning 48,000 acres and another one burning at around 8000 and if the wind pitches, the fires could merge. Bless those firefighers. Not only are they dealing with the fire, but in the desert it's been 114 degrees.

Darkstar, your seasons sound like what my brother used to say about Minnesota when he lived there - 2 seasons, winter and roadwork!!

But damn, the news is really getting me down lately. With what's going on in the Middle East, it seems the world is about ready to set fire.

If only the quality of roadwork kept up with the damage brought by winter.... if only......

In other news, Mia's on the phone with Barcelona.

Apperently, Daft Punk is turning all new people into fags.

I didn't know girls could be fags, but Jeanie is now a fag.

actually, if she says it's ok, I might have to withhold judgement until I see the live act.
