Bjork's collaboration with Fluke was awesome, don't see why it shouldn't work with the chems...

Yeah - Big time sensuality - such a good song!

And Antype...explain ?

It's just that... from the way I see it, she's just become too pretentious lately... with albums like Medulla and Drawing Constraint 9...

Debut was a pretty straightforward record... I'm not a huge fan of it, to be honest, coz it's kinda... too old-school-piano-housey for my taste, but it does include some great tracks. Human Behaviour for one.

On Post, you could feel that she started experimenting with sound. it was quite easily passable for me, except for a few tracks.

On Homogenic, it progressed and on Vespertine, she became totally experimental (very IDM/glitchy sound)... Homogenic and Vespertine are two really amazing records, which I really love. Those are probably the only Bjork records that I really love A LOT and listen to very often. Surely the peaks of her career.

Up until this point, it seemed like a natural progression to me. With Medulla, I think she overdid it a bit - I don't really have anything against acapella albums, but some tracks seem just way too weird to me, just for the sake of being weird. It did have a few enjoyable moments, but overall was a bit harder to digest in its entirety. And with Drawing Constraint 9, she totally went mad over experimentation... Though it's not her actual album (it's a soundtrack, for those who don't know), it's really an unpleasant listening experience.

It just seems to me that she opts for overly experimental sound today because she's afraid of people not saying she's doing something unique...

Ive yet to hear her later material. I just got the 7 disc box set "Surrounded" at a discounted price on ebay and only have only made way through the first 3 cds in the set. And Antype is correct about "Homogenic" that album is brilliant! But I'll hold my opinion about the soundtracks and later albums, till i listen to them.

In reference to the soundtrack albums mentioned above, I think it's really hard to characterize those as albums with an artist's proper body of work. Obviously they're doing things that they don't have the freedom to with an album and, on the flipside, they're constrained in ways they aren't normally.

I haven't picked up Danny the Dog by Massive Attack or the soundtrack Underworld just did because I know while the discs are likely to be beautiful, they're not going to have the sense of immediacy that I need and they'll scarcely be listened to. (Plus, many of the DtD tracks are on Disc 2 of Massive Attack Collected.)

I kind of have to agree with anType about Bjork. Including Vespertine. Bjork is a prodigy in her own right and she is always pushing the envelope but I can only take her in small doses. She has some songs that are so hard to listen to, but others that can break your heart the way good music can make your heart ache to the point of breaking. I don't know if it's fair to say she does things for the sake of being weird because she's always been a bit off her rocker to begin with, but hearing her evolve can easily lead one to think that. Having been a fan of the Sugarcubes a few years ago I can appreciate her success and her willingness to forge new ground and take her fans along for the ride. I've seen her perform once (along with 2 other times with the Sugarcubes) and she is outstanding - she has this immensely powerful voice that really shines when she's on stage. Anyway - I'm just not a huge fan of Bjork, I admit, but can dig the mark she's made. I can respect her willingness to experiment and she's certainly established enough (and has worked very hard) to be given that freedom.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

The thing i like about bjork is the fact THAT she is so weird.

She is not trying to be , she just it. She never MADE a statement , she IS a statement and i have a feeling she is just being the person she is and she reflects that in her music.

That said , i don't know all of bjorks material.

But her voice is just.... 8O Her voice sends shivers down my spine. SO powerfull , on the coachella dvd when she performs " all is full off love" i got tears in my eyes. So beautifull. And she looks so cute and fragile but her voice is SO huge!

Agreed. Her voice can be very seducing. And half the time I dont even know what the fuck shes saying, but it still sounds beatiful.

mmm bjork

Well, I really like Drawing Restraint 9, so maybe I'm biased. But it got some ... 10 listens or so, a bit far from each other, for me to really see it's beauty. Like, Ambergris March... I reckon it as an awesome song.

As far her other albums go, all excellent, with the "less good" one being Medlla. I still can't understand it all, just a glimpse of some songs. These songs were very good.

And anType is right, Vespertine is a especially good record. It feels kinda bittersweet, at times. I never tire of it.

And damn, are we offtopic or what? :P

Willy Mason would be brilliant - he's a great singer/songwriter. But yeah could be just a coincidence as he's Astralwerks like whirly said. There's even a link to the Pacman arcade game on there lol X-D

Not a coincidence! 8)
