They were my brother in laws... they were his 'cheap' set, $180 ear buds... his expensive head phones were something like $1,500. He's a geek like that, and he used to make serious .com bank, so he had it to blow.

Slipvin , there is nothing wrong with having a opinion. There are many people who dont like DO it Again and hope the album will sound a certain way. Seriosly , if u would make a discussion in a normal , grown up way , nobody would think you are a dickhead , but people will take you serious.

Dont be all nice and normal now because we all know you are annoying anyway.

I mean , we get the point. Ed got the point. And YES you can give youre opinion about a song. But you are nt giving youre opinion , you are gicing youre opionon in a extremely annoying way.

I'm not so sure about a post counter anymore. . . Want we do it again? We all know: Slipvin is the best, Slippvin beats the rest. Everything is said!

I was listening to this track today an I think a better term than minimal is definitly Subtle... Minimal implies that there is nothing in there or that the track has 2 layers, which is of course not true. I think subtle works better in that it's not a bad thing (unless you're a cunt that wants it to all sound like DYOH). By subtle I saw these things:

Mixing: The tracks mixing is very level so that no specific sounds really jump out and make you dive for the volume knob when you're listening in a house with others sleeping. The opposite to this would maybe be EBW8/Saturate, when you have those monumental drums crash in.

Drums: The drums on this track are very small in a good way. I couldn't imagine anything better, just that really good 4/4 beat/bass line. The snare is a good drum machine one that gives it that electronic sound, opposite of this being out of control

Quanity of sounds - Rather than something heavy and guiding the song, you hear millions of layers of sounds that aren't meant to gather your complete attention. This is great cause this will be one of those chems tracks where you listen to it in 7 years time and notice things you might not have heard now or yesterday. Opposite of this would be chemical beats or galvanize that have a loud distorted riff through out the song.

Vocals - No long "yeaaaaaaah" in the beginning like the test, yelling of "how does it feel like" or "you're the devil." The vocals for me was the biggest grower because it's something you really don't hear in other chems songs. It's sort of this softer voice (for most of it) with several high octaves. There's the "yeahs" and "uh-huhs" which go in and out through the song that area really great and cannot recall other chems songs having something like this.

This is observation, not opinion. No one should think this is anything but appreciation for the qualities or that subtle is anything bad. If all chems songs were not subtle, I think that would pretty much suck, there's a good balance of both and I certainly think this song is OPPOSITE of minimal in the dozens of layers of audio.

Nice post, Biff. That is pretty much the conclusion I came to before everything I said was brought into the shitter and derailed by he-who-shall-not-be-named and who was far too focused on my earphones. I agree with everything you've said, and you've said it beautifully.

You brought up a really interesting point (and because I am far too lazy to manually code a quote):

I feel that, it's as though you and I are hearing this through the same pair of ears. There are a lot of things I heard in this song that weren't revealed to me before Saturday night. And I had been listening to that song a LOT up until that time, too. These layers have a real acidy quality about them, a real headfuck - like you're hearing voices in your head or it's almost like you're hearing someone whisper in your ear. It's really trippy, I think. And yes - it will be one of those songs you can come back to later on and hear a new sound that you didn't catch before.

I think Biff quite nailed my thoughts on the song exactly too. That's what I've been trying to say all this while, it's definitely not minimal, but it's a bit more basic and simplistic, i was just too lazy to put it down in those many words up there. Nice job there mate! I hope we can close this fucked up conversation now, and move on to other things.

Wait - isn't the single out today officially? :)

OOOOH YEAH!!

I was amazed when I heard this on a local radio station driving home for family thing on saturday night. sure it was the middle of the country and it was the crap version of essential selection on our terrible pop station. still, I rocked the car like no tommorow.

still cant get over the bubblegum lyric.

I don't know the last time I turned on the radio to listen to music. Satellite radio wasn't too bad, but regular radio? I only listen to NPR.

in this day and age, of instant digital access, do people really listen to the radio anymore?

I mean besides really, really poor people :P
