About the Contest

ACIDplanet.com is offering the a cappella from "Galvanize" from the Chemical Brothers' forthcoming release "Push The Button" for remixing. The track features Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest.

The Chemical Brothers build beats that become lead sounds and which battle with noises that pile in from how they imagine pop history to be, what they believe pop to be, a thing you dance to, a thing you get in the way of, a thing that happens abruptly, a thing that happens to itself, a thing that drives you into the future.

Drive your own creation into the future with this vocal track and your collection of loops. Create something new and build your own beats using this sample from electronica's legendary duo.

The winning remix will receive ACID Pro 5 software, Vegas 5 software, and the Sony Pictures Sound Effects Series.

Winners will also receive extremely limited edition Chemical Brothers iSkins that debut the first-ever click wheel protectors from iSkin and the first blue screen to come with an actual skin. Be sure to also go to http://www.astralwer...est/default.asp for other chances to win the iSkins and a grand prize home recording studio with all the gear approved by Tom and Ed!

Now all I have to do is decide how to approach this chance of a lifetime. The original is 104bpm and in wacky timing. Luckily we have heaps of time.

its fucking great to have the vocal accapella style. even though you gotta sit down with acid to recreate it. but its a shame they didn't include a few other samples. i mean i would love clean samples of those eastern strings!!! oh well thats life. i wont be making a remix, but having the accapella is cool
I'm a fuckin doughnut

(I really do hope there's nothing wrong with posting them here :-// )

Ummm, errr... maybe. :-|

I don't want to stick to the 104bpm but I don't want the vocals to sound chipmunkish either... how the heck do I avoid that? I'm looking at 125bpm-ish.

We should swap ideas in this thread ;) I mean, c'mon we don't want some non-forum-person winning now do we?!

Going up to 124 might be quite tough. You could possibly get away with about 5-10bpm either way but anymore and those timestretching artifacts are are gonna be out in full force. You could try cutting the vocals up into there separate words and then cut them into there separate sylables and then timestretch them that could cut down on those artifacts but you got a lot of work ahead of you if you choose to do that. Good luck.

Timestrech would work. Maybe adding a slight apreggiartor climb near the end of the vocal will make it more chipmunkishlishness.

What stops you from copying those wav acapella files and using them in Cubase, FL or whatever you're gonna make a remix in

making the contest holders make you submitt your acid file with your song?

I will have a go at this and I see what I can come up with, I doubt it will be anything good but it's still fun to have the accapellas (you can hear the strings really quietly in the background for some of them if you listen hard enough). Also:

At 12:00 a.m. midnight PST on Monday, February 21, 2005, the contest will be closed and no further uploads will be accepted. If you are new to ACIDplanet, you should create an account and upload a song as soon as possible so that you can work out any problems with uploading that you may encounter. Also, uploading a song can take a considerable amount of time. It's better not to wait until the last few hours of the contest to start uploading your entry.

Entrants must upload a Windows Media format or Real Media format version of their entry first. You will not be able to upload any additional formats after the contest closes, so if also you want to upload an mp3 version, please allow enough time to upload them both before the contest closing time.

Entrants must provide accurate contact information (valid e-mail and postal address) in their registration at ACIDplanet.com for the purpose of contacting winners. You can update your contact information here.

I'll be doing a couple versions. One mix will contain only 100% vocal slices.

Feb 21st...Thats a decent amount of time.
