you are responsible for taking my away from that foolish punky-pop I was listening to when I was younger. Since your music appears to be smarter and more creative then almoust all of the other chunks in the soup, you definitly have the power to influence mind states.
So what I am to say is, plz come back to Vienna/Austria and bring us sum colour into our boring house and techno clubs and waste away those uninspiring djs (names deleted).

Yes yes yes! Everywhere the same bum bum techno and electric trashcan music being played in the clubs. Nobody seems to be innovating or giving the wide spectrum of music a listen. Nobody is goin' to risk something to set the enitre dance floor in flames! Going to club no. 1 and you know what to expect in club no. 2 and so on. Either they're playing pure straight house/techno music or R'nB (not even good 'ol hip-hop of funk). Man, the early 90s must have been a great clubbing decade. . .

Don't be ashamed at having liked pop-punk (or anything else for that matter) in the past. We all go through phases and stages and there's plenty of cringe-worthy material that I still like.
Congrats at having found the Chems. Dig deep into their back catalogue; there's plenty of nifty material to go around.
And I would kill to have ONE decent house/techno club around here, inspired or not. I would space out and go mental on the dancefloor to anything from electro to minimal... if only I could.

So you don't have any clubs in Winnipeg? Nothing like the Winnipeg's Social:-) What type of music can you dance to in your city?

We have clubs, but it is a very corporate scene (most of the big ones are owned by the same hotelling company) and they are almost exclusively hip-hop/r'n'b/Top 40. Which I actually quite like for a night out of drinking and getting down with the ladies. Hence dancing at clubs is much more bump-and-grind than throwing shapes.
Clubbing (or "going to the bar" as it's generally known here) is more about getting pastedly drunk and attracting members of the opposite sex. Drugs are very underground to the point of being non-existent: you do not EVER go to the club expecting to get sorted for pills. Ever. (In fact, ecstasy use is so uncommon in the mainstream as to be considered up there with heroin and crack... almost).
Clubs also close around 2 AM because that's as late as you can serve alcohol. After-hours clubs are almost unheard of. You generally get to the club b/w 10-11 PM after "pre-gaming" (getting pretty drunk ahead of time) for a few hours, drink enough to maintain your level of intoxication, attempt to hookup with someone of the opposite gender, then leave shortly before 2 AM to beat the rush. Maybe a post-party at someone's house, sex with someone if you're lucky.
Music and atmosphere is pretty much incidental and whatever club is packed with the most people quickly gains steam for a few months and is always the best night to go to, regardless of what the format or music is. Last year 80's Night on Thursdays was pretty hot, but almost overnight it was replaced by Mod Night (indie/soul) at a different club... until the club got busted for being almost double overcapacity and the night died almost instantly.
There is one regular "electronic" music night, but I don't really like the club itself much and the tunes are primarily commercial trance. The gay club I went to last weekend was playing some ace tunes but I was so wrecked I don't remember that much and I also don't know if that's their regular music policy (if it is, I'll probably start going more often).
There are a few tiny, tiny, tiny nights with some drum and bass and other stuff, but they are so poorly supported they rarely last for more than a few months at a time. Not enough "vibe" to keep me going.
My favourite club, the Tijuana Yacht Club (what a fucking ridiculous name!!!) is a corporate, Top 40 club mostly, but I actually like the DJ on Saturday night. Plays a bit of really, really, commercial house and electro ('Call On Me' and 'Satisfaction' still get rinsed out weekly) among the Top 40/hip-hop selection, but somehow in the context of the night it works. Relatively cheap drinks, good sound system, cheap cover ($4 CDN), and around 1,000 up-for-it people every Saturday keep me going. (It also helps that I scam my way in VIP pretty much every time. I refuse to wait in line here, if I can help it.)
Sometimes though, I really crave a chance to bust it out on the dancefloor to some raging deebee or electro or minimal or pretty much anything on that end of the musical spectrum. Hence my willingness to spend so much travelling and clubbing.
