Hello All,
I need your help. Since I dont have $5000 to spend and waste getting nothing Im happy with Im going to try to get peoples input. I got the Chemical Brothers Live at the Social album and fell in love with the track by Davy DMX (DMX will rock) from there I found a track by West Street Mob that was in a commercial that had an electronic voice saying "BBBBRREEAKDANCE" and bought that album and loved it, then, THEN,
I got into a song 'needle to the groove' by mantronix and love these types of songs with phat beats and scratches, however, Im unable to find any others along this line besides 'White Lines' by Grandmaster flash and like 2 others - please reccomend some tunes such as the ones described above. All the others Ive bought are slow and lack a punch so to speak
Thanks in advance,
Greg L.

hmmm..not really sure what you are looking for.
you might want to check out an older Freestylers album. "we rock hard" might be your style. maybe their mix cd.."future sound of the united kingdom two".
both are classics for me and were played over and over by me about 7 years ago. i still get a kick out em both. check them out

Ooo! One of my favourite subjects!!
Well, where to begin..........
Track down anything on the 'Sugarhill' record label - they recently re-released their back catalogue so u shouldn't have too much trouble tracking down their stuff. This was one of the best labels for electro and hip hop in the late 70s and early 80s - no doubt your copy of 'white lines' would have been released on this label originally. One particularly classic track on this label is 'Break Dance-Electric Boogie' by West Street Mob - which I assume is one of the tracks you mentioned.
Kurtis Mantronik is a great source of Hip Hop and electro - 'King of the Beats' stands out as one of his best, it cuts in and out of all sorts of soul/funk breakbeats and cool shit! I would recommend his 'Best of: 1985-1999' double album on Virgin. Essential Mantronix listening.
Also on Virgin is a double compilation album called 'Old Skool Hip Hop' which is very good. It has all sorts of cool stuff on it such as NWA's 'Express Yourself', The Sugarhill Gang's 'Rappers Delight', 'Sound of da Police' by KRS-One, various tracks by Grandmaster Flash etc, plus the odd dodgy track by the Fresh Prince! Its unmixed too which is a bonus for those DJs amongst us! :D
Other artists to check out are Ultramagnetic MC's / Kool Keith, NWA, A Tribe Called Quest, Bomb the Bass, The B-Boys, The Beastie Boys, Meat Beat Manifesto, Gang Starr, King Bee, Rufus Thomas, James Brown (of course!), The JB's, The Jimmy Castor Bunch, Kool & The Gang, The Fatback Band, Funky 4 + 1, Coldcut.... the list goes on!
But above all get ANYTHING ever recorded by Public Enemy. Essential Hip Hop! The Enemy re-invented hip hop in the eighties to make important statements and puts all of the modern hip hop rubbish to shame! Thats probably enough to get u started, but just remember, most hip hop released prior to the nineties is bound to be good. :D
Oh and as far as mix albums go, check out The Prodigy's Dirtchamber Sessions for a good sample of the old skool and of course the Chems' own 'Brothers Gonna Work It Out' mix!
Hope this helps - good luck mate :D

Ditto everything hubie says about Public Enemy! It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back and Fear of a Black Planet are incredible records worth checking out!
You may also want to check out the likes of Boogie Down Productions - also a good choice!
