Telemarketers are evil. Evil, I say.

I know they are just people trying to make a living and do their jobs, but the act of telemarketing is so invasive.

A number of years ago I worked for a company that sold living trusts. A good portion of the business involved telemarketers cold-calling senior citizens and pitching living trusts and annuities and such. A horrible company that ended up scaring old people out of their money. Needless to say, everything about the business was shady and the company died a horrible and much publicized death.

I learned a few good tactics to use on telemarketers that got them off the phone in a hurry. Like, "Yes... I see you've called me at a terrible time. Can I please have your home phone number so I can ring you up tomorrow evening say, around 11-ish?" or "I'm a bit tied up right now, my husband's been begging for sex for about a week now and I have to tend to him" or stash's favorite, "I'm sorry, she can't come to the phone, she has something large and fleshy lodged in her mouth!" X-D Worked every time. Now in the US we have national do-not-call lists where it's illegal for companies to cold call any number that appears on the lists.

My favourite is interupting them whilst they are talking and saying "Can I stop you there?" After their reply, say "thanks" and hang up :D.

Mc Marsh, that's what I do!

Well, half of the time I don't even stop them, I just say "hmm, sounds good, ok" and then hang up

I telemarketed for a week for my first job when I was 16. I didn't mind it that much, but they let me go after a week because I wasn't bringing in enough money.

Definetly a results-oriented business.

definitely! the managers used to generally treat us like 5 year olds - and at the end of the shift if you didnt get enough leads in they would make u stay behind for half an hour (unpaid!) while they shout at you for being useless.

the being shouted at i can handle, but being shouted at unpaid - they can feck right off!!

You don't want to sign up, trust me. I really hope you don't consider working a job like that!

Unfortunately you can't say whatever you want because management are monitoring your calls. :P You're given corny scripts to follow with lists of rebuttals and such. Being comfined in a tiny cubicle all day and dealing with people screaming at you or hanging up. Not that you can blame people for screaming and hanging up on you but, Bleh. A little rejection is one thing, but when you're rejected hours and hours at a time, all day every day - that's a lot of rejection. I saw it get to people, it was awful. The turnover rate for those telemarketing jobs is higher than just about any job I've ever seen.

The fact that I've got work tomorrow - I had a week off on leave this week, now it's come to an end. Hmm, what a come down.

It's quite surreal, it so doesn't feel like I'll be getting up at half 6 tomorrow morning to go to work. I'm sure no matter how much I hate it now, it'll be 10 times worse then. :(

Winter has arrived. 25 centimetres of snow coming tonight. Temperatures are plummeting. Roads are becoming unnavigable.

Bleh.

School in general, biostatistics in particular. Actually, school itself is great; assignments and lab reports are not.

Sometimes I really like getting up early.

The rest of the house is asleep, the fog is burning off and I can sit on the patio and have a smoke and drink some coffee - collect my thoughts. Not that I'm thinking of anything in particular I'm still waking up!!

Just this morning I was treated to a beautiful sunrise.

What I hate right now is I have this annoying little pain at the base of my neck on my left side, right above my shoulder. Nothing major, just an annoyance.

Will have to get stash to help me work that out later.
