Glako, if you lived in the UK and were subjected the the RnB scene that we have you would feel the rage too. It is quite disgusting.

What's the matter? Upset that I called out how ridiculous this thread has become and how silly it is to bash one form of music on a music messageboard.

I was just pointing out the obvious. Too bad you take offense.

Face it. This thread stopped being funny after iguanapunk's 1st post. Then again, most attempts at humor after he posts an lol fail to be funny.

Sorry Whirly, but I felt offense in this "Lame humor? ", I think too all this thread is ridiculous since the discussion about illegal download, so I just took it in a humor way (don't know if what I said is english ^^).

It's fine, dude. Really - nothing to be sorry for. Just thought it was silly that this thread somehow ended up bagging on one type of music is all.

Now let's all just chill a bit and listen to some Chris Brown.

I'm kidding. ;)

I liked what Malboul pointed out about the Chems turning something that might not have been palatable to our ears otherwise and turning it into something cool.

But anyway. For the sake of discussion, and I don't mean this in a snarky way but what is it that makes RnB bad? Is it contemporary RnB that seems to dominate the scene at the moment that is yucky, or is it the whole genre including the classic artists like Marvin Gaye and Chuck Berry and Al Green and the like?

Not just the Chems have been inspired, but a lot of bands like The Stones and yes, even the Beatles have their fingers in the RnB pot. It's not all terrible, really. Maybe what passes as RnB nowadays and clogs up the airwaves is what's giving it a bad rap...

For me it's contemporary RnB, in France you have a big RnB scene with many many girl who look all the same and a big part of closed-minded teenagers are listening only RnB (do you know M.Pokora, Leslie, Sheryfa Luna or Kenza Fara ? I don't think and it's better like that ;)). The music is accessory, the most important is the face of the singer and her ass ^^.

You put the finger on a problem, I don't know why we call this scene RnB, I don't see the link with the artist you mentionned, it's not the same music and context. And not the same quality ^^.

It's the current RnB scene that is the problem, not the original stuff which is great imo. For instance, it's stuff like this (it hurt me to search for this Whirls)

It is the worst song ever 'written'. Why why why!

I think RnB has evolved kind of like other types of music out there, and RnB is one of those blankets terms used to define an entire genre - sort of like electronica, or classical, or rock n'roll is used in such a broad manner. I figure that if you have an ear for it (as in if you were an avid RnB listener and were familiar with all the facets and sub-genres of RnB) it would be easier to spot the correlation between classic RnB and contemporary RnB which do appear to be like night and day on first listen.

The RnB scene here in the States is pretty much the same as in France. It's just that here in the States, this is where RnB was born and it's ingrained in a lot of cultures here. It's massive here - RnB and the offspring it produces. I can't really remember a time when it wasn't popular. And yeah, the scene definitely attracts its hipsters. I think the scene is more of a 1990's and onward phenomenon fueled largely in part by the mtv generation.

I totally agree with you about the RnB and the mtv generation that is just a part (which one we were laughing about) of the "whole" RnB. But I'm sorry, I can't see the link between french RnB and RnB old school...

Ah ah, you can go here, great french RnB... Just to read commentaries you understand the intellectual level...

Merci mat, mais y vont détester not' pays comme ça ! :(

Well, we just CAN'T compare old school Rhythm'N Blues and nowadays shitty "RnB". That's totally nonsense..."Worlds in opposite". When I said we should destroy rnb, I meant rnb that we can (in spite of ourselves) hear evrywhere. If you lived here, you'd understand how we suffer due to that shit. The bitches who listen to rnb don't ven deserve to live (they are brainless, idiot, and so useless...). The global IQ would really increase without rnb and all those who listen to it.

R and B! Pulse is dying!

Case in point..Whats wrong with this picture!

http://t0.ca/media/p.../3746/82577.jpg

The 49th Annual Grammy Awards performance of 2 RnB legends. Smokey Robinson(of the Miracles)sang first and then Lionel Richie (of the Commodores) sang next and then guess who comes out jumping on trampolines and panting through his lyrics..Chris Brown!! How in the hell can he be in the same group with these 2 legends. In my opinion, like other RnB groups I have heard in the last 8 or more years, There is no versatility (songs these days have the same beats or songs sound similar to each other) originality, and lame production in which tracks are done a few hours. Smokey was a REAL song writer and made songs that had mystery, complexity, evoked feelings, and made music with real studio bands, and is still getting paid for the songs he wrote for Mary Wells, Marvin Gaye, and others. The last album I bought was I think it was Mary J Blige 'The Breakthrough' but the classics I own (EWF, Al Green, The Stylistics, Luther Vandross, etc.) can never be replaced by the RnB that's heard today.

I have longed stopped collecting RnB music, in which most of my Cd's are of that genre, but now, most of my listening pleasure has been only Rock n Roll and Electronica. Theres is some quality RnB out there buts its not commercial and not slapped with alot of advertising.

End of line!
