When you think about the last 2,000 years, and think about how much of that time the majority of the population has been ruled by old, white men (or whatever the color of choice on the various continents) it's truly an amazing victory for progress.

hehehe... yeah. You mention the papershredders and I'm reminded how the Clinton administration removed all the "W" keys from the keyboards before Bush was sworn in, haha.
I feel the transition (so far) is going smooth but the administration won't be beyond criticism. As much as I dig Obama and am looking forward to some positive change - I know it's not going to come easy and some things are going to be taken in baby steps and he'll probably do some things that'll piss me off (just as Clinton did, and I thought life was pretty damn good for me when Clinton was in office). The economy is hemorrhaging on many levels... it's just... scary. Jobs are scarce and that's real terrifying. Even though stash has been too ill to work these past few months, he's on the mend now and will need to be hunting for a job full time and I'm very, very worried about that. Anyway, Obama will be put to the test, as would anyone else who would have been elected President. Obama is already being criticized in more conservative circles for his approach on the economy and his plans to spark recovery through government related jobs.
What's happening to the auto industry hasn't helped, either. And I tend to think the recent attacks on union workers is an excercise in scapegoating. My fear is, we're a society that's so used to instant gratification with little sacrifice, the general public will grow more critical and impatient with the President and his administration as time goes on and people come to realize things aren't getting fixed overnight.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see, and hope for the best.

It's funny, because I mostly said the exact same stuff you just mentioned in your previous post, to my gung ho democrat uncle, on the phone the other day. People are putting a lot of pressure on the Obama administration to get things done. But, with this economic meltdown we are stuck in, it's going to take more then his 4 years of office to fix the economy. Experts are saying the worst is to come within the next 2 years. So in other words we haven't bottomed out, yet :(. And like you said, the American public is so used to instant gratification, it's going to be very difficult for the Obama administration to paint a positive picture for the country. In the meantime, Republicans will point fingers rather then helping the situation that they left us with.
We'll see though...

yeah i saw 1.99 the other day in Santa Cruz, thought that was insane. It's good for me because I'm low on money right now. I too am looking for a job, which has been rough. I am a fresh college grad, so I lack experience, but at least I can blame the economy right now for getting no job.

1.79 here!
i heard its like 1.55 in wisconsin. INSANE!
You just know it's gonna hit a brick wall one of these days and go up about 25 cents a day until it nestles it self back to that ever so comfortable $4 a gallon.
