- their older stuff I find poppier
- actually while I was listening one thing I found saying to myself was how great the transitions were ;)
I feel like I enjoy the experimental stuff more than everybody else :P

I find with We Are The Night, the transitions are not streamlined like say, Surrender - like the songs (on We Are The Night) are instead taking you on a journey across a jagged landscape. I think the album is jam packed with a large scope of feelings and moods, feelings that are extreme - as there are a lot of peaks and valleys with We Are The Night. One thing is for sure is there are no gradual inclines or declines within the structure of the album. You're coming up hard, then crashing low, then coming up hard then being brought back down again. It's a different trip than their other albums where the trek to the peaks are gradual.
I think had the Chems followed the same structural pattern of flow and cohesiveness like their previous works, it would have been predictable and expected. I think the approach to album flow and structure was intended, but we can see the beginnings of this new direction from Come With Us onward... It seems like the Chems have been gradually reinventing their wheel, and We Are The Night is, well... it's where they are right now...

I agree about them mellowing slightly but after just reading the last 20 posts, that although not everyone likes all the tracks, there are lots of contrasting opinions, so it looks like the chems are still managing to please everybody even though its not their best work.
The one thing i am disappointed about is that their usual type of opener is missing. I like the first few on WATN but on every other album they have started with moody build up then big feck off drums, dirty funk bassline and loads of explosions and it just isnt there at the start or anywhere else on WATN. I remember on the CWU tour they did all four of the openers one after another in reverse order and it blew me away, and coming out to Galvanize at glasto was immense. I am just sad that maybe they feel they dont need to that sort of track, hopefully the b-sides will come up trumps.
Although hats off to still being ace at finishin albums, TPWHYN is top class, getting better every time and its second only to the "Reel" for best closing track imo. Its as tripped out as all the rest and it reminds me of lots of bits of the other closers all the way through.

mX and antype are saying exactly what i'm saying here - it's definitely a very different album from their streak, they'r changing, and I have no problem with them changing - even I'm approaching 30. that's life.
tho on third listen i'm already falling in love again with the album - let's see if it stays - i really wish I'd heard it straight on this quality from the word go.
Plus I know for a fact this album will sell really big - it's way more accessible for newer fans - it's a good thing - will always help sell the back catalogue more and get more fans onboard.
now i've got like 50 promos from Virgin to distribute to djs in this city over the weekend - I can see the change - these are the same people who always thot the chems were too hard for their dancefloors - now they'r way more open to trying stuff of this album. All good!
we're also doing 2 launch parties for the album, and a big event company wants to get them down to Goa in Dec to headline a very big festival - I just don't know how to go about contacting them right now. Any tips? This could be my biggest dream if I could just get Ed to hear us out.

hehehe, that will teach you not to download!! muahahaha! ;)
Anyway, fair n'uff Jack. I admit I was a bit... pained to read you were falling out of love with the album because I knew how much you loved it at first. It's a good thing to learn to love again. The Chems taught me to do that where other bands have failed, so I know where you're coming from completely.
Unfortunately though, I don't know the first thing about properly promoting an event let alone a festival who wants to woo a big act - don't know who'd be the best contact. Maybe go back to Virgin (who sent you the promos) since that would be the safest way to start, or at least they can give you some pointers.

Ahh, frist things first, I just got done reading this whole thread, and omg... you guys.. DOWNLOADING MUSIC IS LAME, WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO?
How do you know if the Track you got is even Legit half the time, and downloading bullSh1tt DISCOGRAPHYS, haha 99% of those are incomplete and pointless, Who's gonna wanna see your digital DISCOgraph collection? Not me.. It's not impressive...
If you dont own the CD? Who are you gonna show your impressive love of music to? A bunch of PC PIRATES... I download stuff, not music, only files, games, movies... I could care less about those industrys..
I spend every dime I make on music, THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS, PRODIGY, CRYSTAL METHOD, VELVET ACID CHRIST... ECT... My favorite bands, are my favorite bands because when I heard one of their songs I liked, I bought their CD, and fell in love.
I would never have cared about the Chemcial Brothers, if I hadnt bought a Exit Planet Dust, and a Come With Us, when I was a kiddy. Now I'm a uber-collector-chems-FREAK!! :)
Get with the program guys, Support what you love with the money you sweat it out for!!
What else feels more REAL than that???? NOTHING..
Hopefully someone understands my views here!!!
Peace,

Dude - are u telling us folks in here about spending money on the Chems?
I live paycheck to paycheck (even tho I earn quite a decent bunch) only because of music - I have multiple copies of whatever I can source - and have more vinyls in this country where people don't know the word anymore. Hell I'm not getting paid a buck - am doing a complete new job of promoting this album along with Virgin just because I want the chems CDs to sell.
Don't tell us folks in here on this forum to buy cds and not download - stay a while, look around, get to know the place and then post your wise ass advice.
Whirly - I'm doing this parallely with Virgin - the India folks are helping me with the festival but the fuckup is I think I can make a much better pitch to Ed n Tom directly WHY it would be really fun to play in India at this time - it's not everyday the Observer does a four page story on Maiden's India gig - the first in history after all these yrs. I am doing the through proper channels route, but if I can get to speak to Ed or even make him read my thoughts on why headlining a festival here would be really big for all asian fans (india's seen many legends tour over the last few yrs and people fly in from all over asia) as well as the Chems on a personal experience level.
Hrmmphh - let me stop dreaming - I just hope the efforts yield something. Even if they don't, I'm gonna try catch them in London this year end if I can save by then - now the girl's also got a good job finally - hope we can save enough by then - it's loooooong pending!

@Enders, nobody said it was right, but yeah - there were a significant amount of us who downloaded the album because we were naughty and couldn't wait. Those who waited were good boys and girls - respect. These things happen, they are bound to happen in 2007 - and what's done is done. Nobody is trying to impress nobody here, nor should they because we're all fans just trying to get in on discussion and enjoy the music.
Every one of us who bothers taking the time to post on the Chemical Brothers' official forum will make We Are The Night a part of their collection if they have not done so already.

Couldnt agree more whirly. I do enjoy buying music and sometimes buying cd's just on the strength of a cover or a good review without even listening to it but downloading is just like borrowing a cd of your mate and then getting into a band, i bet evryone has done that. I waited for the album to come out, but not because i dont agree with downloading, cos my pc is a bit temperamental when it comes to DLing.

On another note - does anyone else think that "Das Spiegel" is a dead ringer for "Style" by Orbital, the sounds used and the melody and the structure are really similar.
I reckon that if you track those two bands album by album that there is a degree of symmetry in the journey they take. "The altogether" is a very similar album to WATN in my opinion, I just hope the Chems 7th album isnt like orbitals 7th i.e their last and a bit crap.

Good stuff. We Are the Night, We are the Uber-fans.
We cherish all there is to hold dear, because the Chemical Brothers make it so.
So my message to all Chemical Brothers and Sisters, This is the final step, The Chemical Brothers are a force unstopable to even the largest atom bomb. The music we buy/download... Is a legacy unlike any other, no matter how this music is blasted out of speakers and subs world wide, All I care about is that IT IS.
So, put on a chems cd/mp3/vinyl, and blow the roof off something, open all your windows, and kill your neightbors cat with a high pitched Chemical induced SQEEL.
:)Happy listening.

I dont think we would all be here if we did not support Ed & Tom by buying their material and going to live gigs/dj sets but it would be interesting to see how much of the £23.95 price tag that EMI have slapped on We are the Night 12" LP actually goes to them personally.
