Don't put words in my mouth son, or anything else. I was just joking around, I would never say the chems CD's stink, and I live off noodles. Super!

I'm starting to believe that iguanpunk is around for some comic relief, whether he thinks so or not :P

now what is this really about "chinese releases"? I mean, I've only been in China for less than 6 months, and maybe I haven't looked really carefully, but I don't think I've seen the likes... I don't remember seeing any info on the ol' Chemical Bits about Chinese releases, and I don't think I recall ever really seeing these things advertised anywhere like on HMV.co.jp where they stock releases from all over. But by the sounds of it, I guess they're probably not exported.. if they exist.. :?

the chinese releases usually come in extra digipak cases or so... and as they are extremely cheap they are a MUST HAVE!!!

alright, I'll look around, and if I don't see it in HK (since in many ways it's still not like the rest of China), I'll try to get to a record store just across the border. wish me luck!

collectors are geeky people who have to collect every release, on every format, from every territory. well done you spent a shit load of money on the getting 10 copies of a the same piece of music just because it come in a different plastic case. i just find that weird and unhealthy.

i'm a fan, and i consider myself a huge chems fan. but i have pretty much one copy of each release. i cant spend all my money on buying the same music over and over again. i'd rather spend my money buying albums and singles from other artist, diversifying what i listen to, broaderning my taste. its healthy cos it makes you appreciate music more.

i spend all my money on music - i'd rather be hungry than not buying a record i want to have. in general, i have 2.500 original records and CDs and know how to appreciate music }:-@ nevertheless, as i love the chems, i have the feeling that i need all their releases. and who should collect everything if not a real fan? do you really think, someone else would spend all his money and time for such a collection???

of course, megafans do not have to be collectors - most important is that they love and respect the music and it's makers

For me, I will buy a rare release/import if it has some special tracks on it that I like the sound of and that's it - simply new music to appreciate. No need for me to buy every release just because it's on a different format - and that doesn't make anyone 'less of a fan'. :?

I collected for years and years, every penny went to buying even the most minuscule of collectibles as long as they were U2 related - it bordered on obsessive and unhealthy. No way would I trade all the adventures I had in hunting some stuff down, happening on stuff by accident. It was part of who I was. I was snotty enough to think I was a "real" fan and a "bigger" fan than anyone else. What I couldn't see was my obsessive compulsiveness overshadowed what really mattered the most, and that was the music. Enough's enough.

Now, I just don't have the money to be spending on release after release of the same thing just so I can show off my cd collection and say I'm a "real" fan. I'm sorry, but that's fucking bullshit. I've got what I need from the Chems (with the exception of their new record, of course!) and I'll get everything else as it comes my way. I have a little mouth to feed, bills to pay, and even though I spend plenty of time on here I *do* have a life to live. And I'm not sorry about those other things in my life, either. I consider myself a massive Chems fan and I have a lot of their stuff, more than the average fan. But that does not make me better than anyone else and I certainly don't need to be made to feel like I'm a lesser Chems fan because I forgoe eating so I can have multiple copies of the same things on my shelf. That's great there's collectors out there who take pride in what they own, but I can do without the 'tude.

Defensive is my middle name today.

just to have one of each song is enough including live versions but collecting radio edits etc kinda wasteless imo

so true.

i personally hate radio edits, cos 9 times outta 10 your taking music away and ruining the vibe of the track. like 'it began in afrika', i heard radio one play the edit a few times when it was released. and to me that edit bears no resemblement to the original. its just weird cutting two thirds of a tune out. i only want to hear the full measure mixes!!!!

But sometimes radio edits can be good for showing the point of a track, what it's about. I personally like short tracks so I know what it's about then later on hearing the full version.
