Okay Kiddo's.

I spoke to my mate Ed today is Computer Expert Nr 1 ( No really , he builds website and makes good cash with that :P ) According to him - And some other boardmembers and me - a new board really is the best thing we can do. ( Because seriously , this spam is really fucking annoying ) We could make a sticky in this forum with the new forum adres and send out PM's and emails to the active members. Maybe if the new forum works well it can be turned into the "official' board. My mate Ed wouldn't mind helping out with the new board ( And he usually get paid to do that u know.... ;) )

This way we can continue being nerdy without annoying spam about viagra and big tits - AND we can still read the posts on the old board. I'll go online every once in a while to delete the most spam on the old board so that it's still not to bad if you want to read something on the old board.

The domain name THECHEMICALBOARDS.COM is still free.

What do you all think ?!

For the record, that's my idea.

Anyway, as Jeanie said, I can help starting up a new forum and stuff.

And when the admin returns from wherever he or she is, I can merge most of the topics from this board and stuff..

About the spambots right now.. I don't think there's much you can do to prevent it without admin rights or ftp access.. I can have a look and try to hack it, but Im sure I won't succeed :)

Is there life after death? That's what I'm thinking.

We need a new board. This one is dying.

Ed, you legend! I'm up for it, because I'm a realist and this board is doomed to drown in spam. As much as I'm up for waiting for Virgin to realise the trouble and come sort it out, I recognise that the problem is now severe, with Jeanie alone deleting 50 posts a day (let alone what the others are catching), and we simply cannot wait for the new album or whatever to come along and rescue us. If you think at some point in the future it can be merged with this one, that's good news as some of the great threads won't be lost.

It's worth stating that there are (at least) 2 common types of forum, I'm not sure of the techical names, but you get the forum similar to this one, and you can get another type with a "quick reply" at the bottom of the page, and other cool stuff like that. We'd need to decide which one we wanted

When it's decided to start a new forum, we will make a wishlist and then try to realise it.

i think it is a bad idea as we will lose the majority of the users transferring to the forum

Make a Sticky topic. Problem solved.

And there are only a few people who post here regularly. Fuck the rest.

Agreed. And people who would like to post on the new board can find the new adres in a sticky that will be on all the forums. And yes Ed , when we decide to make a new board - we can make a whislist and Ed can try to realise it.

People who really want to stick with the board will come over to the new board. Don't worry about Tom and Ed , they'll get the new board adress.

I think waiting for chemical 6 and POSSIBLE board update is unrealstic. That could be for months , and who says we'll get an actually board update ?

I quote from HERPES thread ( :P )

Slipvin Escribi:

the mod powers will be expanded to more users in the coming days so the more mods the less work for the individuals.

Why are you so against a new forum?

I think Slipvin has a point.

I personaly think having more mods is not being realistic.

We get attacked by spambots everyday - The forum still logs me off sometimes when i make a post and press submit - The orange tags dont work preoperly anymore. Basicly - the board is fucked.

Lets face it - having more mods will ONLY get rid of the spam a bit quicker - but the problem is still the same.

Plus , how many mods can you possibly have on a forum. I dont doubt anybody , don't get me wrong , but giving 500 people mod power is just as out of control as all the spam we have.

I read

http://www.djhistory.com/forum/

which uses

http://www.vbulletin.com/

and

http://www.hijackbristol.co.uk/board/

which uses

http://www.simplemachines.org/

both boards are simple to use. that's where my knowledge of internet messageboards ends I'm afraid.

I'm actually trying to read boards less and get more work/music done! :?

Yep, spam is out of hand and has been out of hand for months. Months!

I don't want to abandon this place either but reality is and has been that without an admin it's pretty clear indication that the ball was dropped somewhere. And it's clear that the people up in the virgin marketing division likely stopped caring a long time ago. If you all want to try a new forum and go that route - let's see how it flies. If it means that is where my friends are migrating to, then so be it. Maybe letting the spam fill up this board will make whoever is in charge of web maintenance take notice. Or maybe not.

And maybe some discussion can come about besides spam spam spam every couple of days. All this discussion about spam is a fucking turn off really. Yeah, it's bad. Yeah, we need a new board. Yeah, then so let's move on.

It reminds me of the old Chems mailing list that just up and died one day. Literally. Thankfully a lot of us wrote off the list so we all connected again at some point and migrated to a new mailing list... which is deader than a door knob these days but at least its there and we can keep in touch from time to time. Maybe that is the way Virgin does things. They let things die out and they move on to the next tool.

Another thing just for a security measure peeps is you might want to disable your email address from being shown in your profile. And change your password frequently.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

That's because you're a girl. They are my favourite threads, although; I don't need viagra for the boobs thread.

Cast your minds back, to a forum member who we all slated for creating a new forum. Who was he? where is he? Is it still up?

I'm definatly up for a new forum :D and if possible our post counts set to as they are now otherwise I can see a post war happening, and that is something we do not want, we get toomuch'stash talking enough shit as it is.

If it can be simular to this board, white bright and alive it'd be good. Not some dirty techno forum where it's all dark and every post feels like your last.
