Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man

Nice choice! I've been loving this track ever since I watched Zodiac for the first time.

Sounds interesting. By which band is that?

Never watched Zodiac, is it good? Heard this track first on an sampler from Rolling Stone magazine, no idea what the name was.

Well, it depends on your preference for movies types. It's a flick about a real and still unsolved case happened in the San Francisco (Bay) Area during the late 60s/early 70s where a murderer killed some people and mocking the authorities with cyphers and cryptic clues. It's a long and rather detailed (not entirely correct) movie about that case and one needs to let oneself in for the narrative, I guess. However, I liked the movie pretty much because the case itself is sort of compelling (if you're into unsolved murder cases).

This by the way is the movie's opening song by Three Dogs Night that I will always associate it with:

and here's an opening scene with your mind blowing Rolling Stone gem:

Boyzone

Ah, thanks! I knew it sounded familiar.

Oh Zodiac is definitely worth a watch. Directed by David Fincher of course, so not much chance of it being rubbish.
Speaking of getting to know songs through films etc, track 4 on the cd above is Hole In My Shoe by Traffic. A song I first heard when Neil from 80's UK sitcom The Young Ones did a cover version of it. Because of that, I can never take the song seriously. Though I'm not sure how serious the original was anyway.

The B Side of this was called Hurdy Gurdy mushroom funnily enough.

Another track on the above CD also featured on a David Fincher film, namely Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit which was in The Game.
I picked up a white label bootleg mix of this a few years ago, which I've just found on youtube now (with some difficulty). I really like this version, though it would be even better if the snare sound wasn't quite so in-yer-face.

I like the way they restructured the original track to fit a much, much lengthier buildup to work on the floor, despite the awkward moments here and there.

I agree re: the snare. ("There's too much snare in my headphones!" - MadPooter)

A fair summation Mr Pooter. Have you got yourself a little catchphrase there (or appropriated a similar line from Eminem)?

The new Juan MacLean (In A Dream), but not really sure right now. I've expected something like 'You Are My Destiny', 'Feel Like Movin' or at least like 'Get Down' but completely different.
