Oasis to work with Chemical Brothers again

Noel Gallagher wants to team up with the dance duo

Noel Gallagher has revealed that he would like to work again with The Chemical Brothers.

The Oasis guitarist lent his vocals to the dance duo's number one 1996 single 'Setting Sun', as well as the 1999 Top Ten single 'Let Forever Be'.

Despite the aborted sessions with Death In Vegas for 'Don't Believe The Truth' in early 2004, the experience has not put Gallagher off moving back into the dance arena, he told XFM Manchester.

"We kind of thought it's time to step outside of our own studio and go and try something a bit different, and it's well documented that we didn't have the right songs to go and tackle the project," he explained.

"We thought it was going to be great, we got in there and turned the tapes on and it was a little bit shit," he added. "But I would have loved to have worked more with the Chemicals, still would actually. I still think 'Setting Sun' to this day is one of the best things I've ever done, much to Liam's disappointment."

Gallagher has also admitted that Oasis' career has partly been due to luck.

He explained: "There're lots of tiny little things that have to fall into place, and there's kind of too many to mention, but timing is probably the best one. I think if we'd have put our first album out three or four years either side of when it come out we'd be talking about a completely different story here.

"We just kind of rode the crest of a wave really, I would say its fifty-fifty luck and hard graft."

The guitarist has also expressed his desire to move back to Manchester, though is unsure as to whether it would be permanent.

"I should have done it maybe five or six years ago, but my daughter's all grown up now and all that," Gallagher said. "But I'd definitely like to go back there to write at some point because I think some of the best stuff I ever wrote was back in town. Whether I could live there or not, I don't know anymore. I probably could actually.

I certainly wouldn't be against hearing a Noel + Chems collab again. I'm not normally in favour of retreading old ground, but as we can see in the vast differences between the twisted psychedelia of Setting Sun and the fuzzy-day-glo psychedelia of Let Forever Be, there's room to be mined yet.

I agree Darkstar, I think Noel's work with the Chems has been great - it's a shame Liam feels the way he does. Sour grapes maybe. At any rate, if the Chems want to work with Noel again sometime in the future I won't complain.

I love hearing when an artist cites the Chemical Brothers as an influence. Even better when they are a major influence.

I read a blurb a few years ago, it was in one of those magazines that had the top 100 dj's, and Fatboy Slim said his fave dj's were the Chems. It's funny because I remember with clarity him saying that, but I don't remember exactly what the Chems said - maybe Sasha? Bah, can't remember back that far right now, I could be wrong, don't hold me to it!

Anyway, I long to have a great clubbing moment like you all had on New Year's Eve. I've yet to see the Chems play in a club.

I long to relive that night!!! We're finally starting to get some bigger name DJs through town, but they're mostly trance DJs...

I have good clubbing memories, but once... just once I want to bear witness to a Chems set in a club, in London preferrably where everyone's just going nuts and really feeling it. Seen them play dj sets at festivals but that's nowhere near the same vibe or feeling I would imagine their club sets would be. I love the tunes they play, I like how they mix it up, I like how they get into it. Sigh. New Years is coming! God I hope I can make it this year

That depends on how much time we're given beforehand to round up the funds and arrange time off work and a sitter.

And if stash will let me! :P

Well if they do a set that allows us at least a couple months to plan, it can be done. It'll be a squeeze, but it is possible.

Of course we can always shoot for New Years if the rest of the year is a no-go. But New Year's would take more money planning. Either way, I would so love it if stash and I could take a Chemical vacation!
