No palm trees where we were but there was plenty of cactus!
I like the desert, and I'm sure there are spots in Arizona that are beautiful at certain times of the year - I wouldn't know because I've only visited Phoenix and Flagstaff (a relaxed gorgeous hippie mountain town) in the summer. It's just a wee bit too hot for my liking. And I kid you not, in my in-laws' neighborhood they have fry-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk contests. I brought plenty of sunblock with me, but I mostly stayed indoors anyway.
It was a nice visit though, and I'm glad to have my son back.

It was 111 Fahrenheit (44 Celsius) here yesterday with the humidex and so humid that you could rehydrate yourself by drinking the air in through a straw!
And I've only seen about 20 miles worth of Arizona, but it was one of the most beautiful things I've seen! The I-15 on its way from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas cuts through Arizona for just a few miles and runs through this beautiful canyon gorge that is nothing but carved out redrock with river streams and curvy Interstate that descends several thousand feet. It was an inspiring sight at 6 AM on the way to Coachella (especially b/c that was the day I arrived in Indio and it was the perfect way to start the day).
But it wasn't as cool on the way back. I think it's nicer coming from the north.

northern arizona is gorgeous, southern and central arizona... eh.... they don't plant a lot of palm trees out there anymore, cuz they need too much water, so all the new developments are just cactus and mesquite trees.
we went out to dinner on saturday night, this pretty good place, big place, there were probably 200 people in there, and I kept thinking 'what's wrong with this picture', I couldn't put my finger on what seemed out of place, until I realized there was nothing but white people there. Where I live it's about 50% asian, middle eastern and hispanic, but this place was like 100% Pure White Race.... it made me uncomfortable.

That would be the bee's knees, man.... Strangely, I might be down in the Twin Cities area the weekend after you're gone for a party about an hour or so north thereof. I need to seriously start saving cash though, 'cause I just bought a new computer and I'm beyond broke and racking up the credit card again.
