I would like to add that Bill Drummond of The KLF - who used alot of "K" references and misspellings ("K Sera Sera", etc.) - once explained that, besides the mystical meaning of the letter, "K" is the strongest letter in the alphabet. And I agree with him.
(KLF stands for "Kopyright Liberation Front", which would sound lame if it was spelled correctly - I mean, come on: "The CLF" ? :D )

Can anyone explain what exactly ketamine is?
Is a liquid, a powder, some thing else.
What does it do?
I don't know the name ketamine.
It's a liquid, and is a local anesthetic. It's primarily used by veterinarians, but is also used in hospitals on small children and old folk who can't withstand general anesthesia.
By the time it hits streets, it's in powder form, likely cut with other shit, but there's people out there that shoot the stuff up too. It causes odd, hallucinogenic experiences that are akin to out-of-body experiences, the trip is hard to explain. Not like an acid trip where you're lucid and awake, but somewhere inbetween the conscious and unconscious.

Sorry to tread on your toes a little whirly, but it's in my field (I'm gonna be a pharmacologist). Ketamine is a general anaesthetic, but when it's used recreationally, it's not used to anaesthetic doses. It called a dissociative, because it dissociates your limbs and skin from your brain. You get tunnel vision and generally pretty fucked up. People often say you leave your body and visit an alien world (the k-hole) - scary if you don't know about it, but those that use it love it.
Final point: http://www.erowid.or.../ketamine.shtml
BTW, I'm sure someone asked tom & ed (on the relevant section) about lost in the k-hole, and they denied any drug references!

No no, you're not treading on my toes at all! :) I was trying to spell it out in layman's terms. I don't know the proper terminology as far as pharmaceutical impact of k versus general anesthesia (the kind that completely knocks you out when you go into surgery)- but anyway. I did leave out the important fact that k is a dissassociative. As for exactly what it does to you in a trip, I won't say here - if people are that hard pressed to know I'll tell them privately. ;)
The erowid site you provided is a great one, forgot all about that one, it's good to see it's still up. I've ventured on there a number of times in the past, but in my case as far as where I am in my life, I hardly feel the need to reference it anymore.
And *giggle giggle* at at griffin's post. I don't know whether to laugh, *eh hem* or just wink.
