Ive wanted to set up this thread up for a while now mainly after reading similar threads about other peoples favourite bands... Im not really into many bands, i much prefer my house music. So i thort it'd be a good idea to discuss peoples opinions on DJ's, which 1's blow you away and which 1's disappointed you. Because of the whole "superstar DJ" phenomenon some DJ's are hyped up way too much, when its apparent that the rezzie down your local club cud do better...So have your say and lets hope for some interesting discussion.

DJ's I Rate...

1.Frankie Knuckles... Simply the godfather. he shook my hand!

2. Danny Howells... I love this guy, he plays this kind of music that i have never heard before, drifts between techno, house, deep house and uplifting house, his chill out sets are also quality. Cant wait for his new global underground cd.

3. Pete Tong... Always rocks it, and he probably has the most up to date record box out of anyone in the industry. Not afraid to drop the big tunes at his gigs.

4. Ralph Lawson... BacktoBasics Ressie and head honcho at 2020 vision records, one the best labels in the uk. He jus got this kind of techy house style, but with a kind of funk that cant be explained, legend!

5. Danny Rampling... Old school houser, hes banging on a bit but he still bangs em out, he knows about the roots of house

DJ's I Fckin HATE!

1.Lottie... way over rated, the last time i saw her she was playing absolutely ancient tunes that even i had in my record box. Nothing fresh, just seems to play wot every1 else does. 1 saving grace is that shes fit.

2. Alex P and Blocko...simply a pair of c**ts. 1 saving grace is that they are responsible for setting up the teracce at space

3. seb Fontaine... i know he gets a ,lot of stick, and u may think i am jus jumping on the band waggon but ive seen him twice play at passion in coalville, he jus killed the club no one was dancing. Just shite! The Reflekt tune hes done is quite good tho!

cant think of any others at the moment

haha. Just noticing that alot of people are hating tiesto (myself included!) This is pretty amusing considering hes been voted "best dj in the world" for the third year in a row. y the fuk is that!!???!!??? People tell me that trance is the most popular form of dance music and as such it has the biggest following and more people will vote for tiesto than house dj's. But is trance that popular, surely its all about the house music!!??!!Trance is so 1998, imo it died as we entered the new millenium. Once the most popular dance genres were house and trance now it seems its more about the house and breaks. Which makes me happy! dirty dirty trance wank, i think ian van dahl and flip and fill ruined it for them!

He has very basic skills for a DJ. He mixes one easy record into the other, but he seems to catch the right vibe with the party people. I know that's important too, but I am asking a little more from a dj these days than just good party skills.

thing about tiesto is he does those alful warehouse parties to 50,000 people. and i just cant understand what that is all about?? i'd rather preffer to enjoy my music with 500 people. i see tiesto is doing a show at disneyland paris. he's just such a cunt.

he maybe voted the worlds number 1 dj, but who gives a shit. its just a list, it means nothing to me.

i hate to think that people who dont really know alot about dance music think that tiesto is the ambassador or the king or someshit like that if u get me. like sneaker sed, hes a cunt. The real king of dance music imo wud be Pete tong, or Frankie Knuckles. they are the innovators.

I read somewhere that he does shit like escaping from a box on stage. Maybe he realises that the music he plays is isnt good enuff anymore so instead he has to make a prick out of himself.

its the music that matters. u cunt.

Playing disneyland, wat a twat.money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money. Can u be any more of a sell out!!!

I see people constantly buying trance, so from what I can see trance is still quite popular. Mainly 2 types of people: younger kids and middle age adults just discovering a whole new type of music. I find that generally, people just getting into electronic music will gravitate toward trance music... but only at first. I think due to its popularity, trance is what a lot people (especially those who aren't familiar with a lot of electronic artists) associate electronic music with. It's forumlaic repetitiveness, watered down qualities and for the most part, it's happy melodies are an easy sell to people who are just getting familiar with dance music. On that note, I see trance music as a sort of safe introduction into electronic music. I was never a trance head but I listened to a bit of it in 1999 when I was sort of rediscovering music and trying out listening to new things - but I got bored of it pretty quick. And like me, it doesn't take long for people to grow bored with it and move on to something with a little bit more substance, a bit more variation in the song structure, something with a little bit more feeling and soul. For what it's worth, though we might not care for trance (and those who have bothered reading my rants know I have my gripes with Oakey) but based on popularity alone I think it's still relevant and like just about everything else, has it's time and place.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle
