I admit, the cinema is not the best place for a live music, none of the ones I've been to have a good enough sound system for something like this, but you have to go and see it. It's the Brothers with a movie in the cinema .. it's an historical event!

I think it will be the destruction of the cheap cinema speakers. The Chems will never play in their cinemas again! I wont be going to see it because I want my friends to see them live and if they see them for the first time in the cinema they wont understand and probably wont be fussed about seeing them live. Plus sitting down watching a live dance gig isn't my idea of fun.

What's better? seeing a concert at home on DVD or on an imax screen with surround sound ?

Option 3: Seeing them live.

Yes, of course. That's the best thing to do.
But while the cinema might not be the best place for a Chemical show, most likely this movie will be released on DVD someday. And that means that we'll have a professional recording of a live gig. For the very first time in Chemical History!

see you at the aftershow, inchem!

I think that's probably the best theater to show such a film!

Really looking forward to this movie. Its been a long time coming after all. I'm only slightly surprised they decided to do it with a festival show which seem generally a bit shorter. If I remember rightly their non festival shows from the last 18 months included the wonderful Snow/Surface to Air segment. If I was being brutally honest I would say I'm majorly disappointed that's not been included, it was a real show highlight for me, both sonically and visually.
Its also a mute point that the Reel isn't going to be the set closer for what will be the definitive live Chems movie. I guess you could argue its already out there on the DVD from Glasto 2000. I've always been a fan of epic set closers rather than greatest hit set closers.

Anyway. Small niggles. The rest is going to be amazing I'm sure. Can't wait to see how its been captured. It will worth going to see in the cinema I think, particularly if its been given the full surround sound treatment (and your local cinema crank's up the volume a bit)

Not sure what I think about this. On one hand I'm very happy that Tom and Ed are exploring so many new ideas lately. I love that their creative juices are flowing and they're providing lots of quality stuff for us fans. But on the other hand, for what ever reason, I cant say I'm super excited for this live movie for some reason. I remember as a forum we collectively begged for a live recording or DVD. The mere taste of it in the singles 93-03 DVD was just not enough. However, after living the experience numerous times, I must say I was starting to buy into Ed's words about a film/movie/dvd (whatever) not capturing the experience properly.

That being said, I'm sure this film will be great. When I eventually watch it, I wish I could capture the experience with my fellow forum members, just like a real show.

I'm crossing my fingers for some type of outtake which rolls through the credits that includes Tom and Ed dancing to their track on Just Dance 3.

Yeah, I can see the other side to the premise of releasing a film/DVD of a live set. Nothing can top being there in person to experience a live show. It is the ultimate. I totally get that and know how lucky I am to have seen the Chems do what they do, and be in a crowd of like minded people going for it. There is no true substitute for that.

But on the other hand (and to be the fatalistic voice of reality, as much as it pains me) the Chems aren't going to be performing forever, they can't tour all the time and they can't perform in every single country... the opportunity to catch their live show isn't always within reach. And it won't always be there - because of age, family, school, work, money, geographic disadvantage or god forbid the Chems calling it a day. I hope this film can help those of us who've seen the Chems relish in the memories we do have and fill whatever voids currently exist for a lot of fans. I understand where Ed was coming from all those years ago - it is his music his career and his say. But damn man. I think it's about freakin time something like this was released!

Hey guys, guys it's 2011: LIVE BLU-RAY!

3D and surround sound maybe (remember they wanted 360° visuals for the Further tour)?

DVD is not enough for a live Chems concert!

Apologies if this has already been mentioned...

There's an article in this months Sound on Sound magazine all about the Chems live set up, there's also a small section on RECORDING the shows that was quite interesting...

"As well as all their synths, effects and sequencing equipment, the Chemical Brothers also bring a full multitrack recording rig on tour with them, and MANY OF THE SHOWS HAVE ALSO BEEN FILMED FOR POSSIBLE FUTURE RELEASE. "That will obviously show off the visual side of things, as well as the audio side of things, to full effect," says Matt Cox, "with crowd footage and lots of close-ups of the gear for all the gear perverts!"
EVERY DATE ON THE TOUR WAS RECORDED, using a mixture of direct outs from the on-stage rig and a variety of microphones..."

Really interesting in depth read with some really nice photos of their live rig :)

opening the main site. oh F*ck!!!!! That just scared the hell out of me and got me so excited at the same time. Still watching it over and over and over.....

I will agree with past comments that watching a concert film at the cinema isn't the most appealing thing inthe world. However, it will be interesting to see a high quality version of one of their gigs without worry about the punter next to me spill his drinks, crowding to the front to marvel in it all, or having to wait for the setup guys to get off stage.

So maybe we should do a meetup for a screener. Anyone?

I heard they record all of their gigs <insert drool smilie here> but from what I gathered the footage was not intended for mass consumption. This snippet you posted has me going hmmmmm! And no, I don't think it has been posted before so thanks for the heads up! :)

That would get my vote. Maybe Galvanize as the opener too.

I think the only "non festival shows" they did was the Zenith in Paris and Rockhall in Luxembourg

Oooh. Extras! I was so amped about this I haven't even thought of that.

Maybe even easter egg potential. Now I'm thinking too much... :P Should we go there yet?
