Yesterday I was searching some infos about the new Kaoss Pad 3 (I'm thinking about a KP2 upgrade), and I found this interesting toy:
What do you think? Anyone have tried this? :)

What do you think about KORG EMX?

I've heard very good things indeed about this one. It's worth considering the ESX-1 as well - that's a sampler rather than a synth/drum synth. But the samples can be pitched, so you can write melodies on it no problem.
I haven't personally tried the new generation of Electribes, but I've got the first generation EA-1 (as has Darkstar, I believe), and it's a great little synth. A little limited in scope, but it does sound great.
This link has some sound samples of the EMX-1, check it out!

One of the effects on it is "Compressor" - when this is included as an effect on synths, it's presence is usually to boost drums, so using that on the drum tracks would probably give you the fat drums you look for. That, and a bit of tweaking of the drums themselves (they're synth'd on the EMX-1)

if you're ever looking for reviews of gear then check out sound on sound magazine. it's much more in-depth than future music/computer music....bit more of an industry mag - well written but a bit dry sometimes. they know their stuff though.
if you want an all in one type jobba it does seem well rated...not played on one myself
obviously it depends on your budget but if you do want to go the hardware route then I'd personally go for an akai mpc (as used by tom n ed live and legions of hip hop producers) for sequencing and get a hardware synth for synth sounds etc.
all in one boxes never seem to cut it for me.
however if you want something for a first forray into hardware sequencing this could be for you. your best bet is to go in to a friendly music shop. explain that you're serious about a purchase and ask to have a play!
chebbers
the day I had to sell my mpc to pay the rent was just about the saddest day I can think of.....no wait, the day I had to sell my bass guitar was pretty dark too :(

i miss mustang sally :'(
personalyl i think the new korg filters are very 'wack' (as in bad as in bad not bad as in good)
but obviously if u dig the sound then tuck in like a goose starved farmer on christmas day.
bonanza.
ph yeh fuck hardware sequencing - if its for live stuff then yep, go for it, but if ur lookin for a studio jobber id always use it in conjunction with a real sequencer ie logic or cubase,
spakning.

Thanks for your replies,
this would be only for live fun, not for "studio producing". ;)
Now I'm a bit undecided between EMX and ESX. The ESX is a sampler, and It's less restricted in that "range of sounds" like the EMX, but anyway, all depends on the quality of samples...
Sampler or synthetizer? You what would choose? :)
