Back to topic... sort of.

Does anyone know about the other works of William Orbit ? Especially "Pieces in a modern style" and of course his "Strange Cargo" project ?

I listened to some of the "Pieces" tracks, and while some of them were a bit boring and sounded just old, others were really great and made me think of buying the album. Now I just have to find a second hand store in my area that sells it for a reasonable price.

Same goes for Strange Cargo - last time I checked prices in London, they sold it for quite an amount of money. But sooo beautiful music. I can only recommend you to check out "The Story of Light".

I'm not familiar with Pieces in modern style but I really really enjoyed Strange Cargo III - it's definitely chill out, nicely arranged textures, lazy evening kind of music. I haven't listened to it in a while, so I don't know if it will sound dated since it came out ten years ago (jeez, has it *really* been that long? time flies...) Anywho - it's worth looking into imo.

If all else fails, a good start would be to invest in a 'best of' or collection of that person's music - that way you're getting a nice sampler that will introduce you to the artists' other records you might have been unsure about purchasing.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

From what I listened to of Strange Cargo, I really liked it, but as I said it was too expensive. Maybe next time when I am checking Netsounds again, I should keep my eyes open for it.

My favorite track from "Pieces" would be "Barber's Adagio for Strings" - one of those melodies you can play in any style you want that will always hook people up. Just like "Axel F" by Harold Faltermeyer.

(PC game "Homeworld" has the Adagio with mixed choirs and it sounds awesome)
