Gawd, Adore really is a gorgeous album. Fuzzy drum machines and soft electronics, gorgeous pianos, the Great Pumpkin at his most lyrically introspective, what more could you ask? Written in an emotional vortex created by the death of Corgan's mother, the death of touring keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin due to heroin overdose, and the expulsion from the band of drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, this album was a shocking change of pace when it was released.

I know they turned down the rock knob from its burned-out setting and America turned its collective back, but fuck! This album is stunning.
