On the strong lager front, I recommend Faxe Strong Lager from Denmark at a little over 8%. Nice smooth, drinkable beer that makes sure you won't last past midnight.

it annoys me that the brixton, birmingham, glasgow blah blah blah academy is named after a really poor larger. they put the carling name before football, now they are putting the carling name before music. its a crap alcoholic drink that will get nowhere without endorsement
At least the Carling Cup isn't worth crap!!! Actually, I shouldn't say that, 'cause it's the only thing my Reds are likely to win this year. Especially considering their derby performance today. To think I got up at 6 AM to watch the game.... grrr...... I think I need a beer. Maybe I'll go get a carryout a little later.
the carling cup is the poor mans trophy of football!!! plenty of real competions before that. fa cup, chapions league, uefa cup.... even the charirty shield is more desireable than the carling cup

Yeah, the Carling is worthless compared to any of those you mentioned, but I don't see Liverpool challenging for any of those, so Carling Cup will hopefully be enough of an accomplishment to keep Gerrard past the summer. Though I doubt it. Unfortunately. *fingers crossed for Champions League hopes ----- hahaha, that's funny!*
And of course the Charity/Community Shield is more important than the Carling: you have to win the latter to play for the former!

And to return to the alcoholic theme that the thread started with, tonight's beer tally/impressions:
Beck's: Better than I recall, but really no head to it; tastes like a decent apple juice.
Goldhorn Club: A Slovenian beer that I've never seen before, it adds another country to my list. Honestly, very good. Also apple juicey, but with a nice hop bitterness to distinguish it. I'll buy some more before the LC decides to stop carrying it.
Guinness Extra Stout: Crap. Compared to the Marston Oyster Stout I had last week, this tastes about right for the low, low price I paid for it. Too bad I still have five left in the fridge. (Well, it's not THAT bad, but what do you expect when Labatt brews in on license?)
And, unsurprisingly, I've got little done on my Chemistry studying. Oh well.

Not sure exactly where it's brewed, but it's available at the local liquor mart. It's a new arrival within the last week and a half or so, but when I pick some up I'll be sure to let you know the details.

thank you - i've never heard of that one and am quite interested ;-)

Oh yeah, forgot that I looked at it last night when I went out. I didn't buy any but checked the info so I could tell you. It's called EKU 28, not EKE, and it's 11.0% and from Bavaria. I can't remember the precise city the brewery is from but I believe it was something like Kolchim...? I'll be trying it out probably next weekend. I'll keep you posted. ;-)
