It's brilliant, and it *will* set a new standard for the gaming industry.

At least until Half-Life 2 and then Halo 2 get released. ;)

yeah hl2 is going to kickass. Since it seems we all know about games here, tell us how d3 is whirly. I heard it's really cool for the first 2 hours and then it's repetative -monsters jump out of the dark and you shoot them.

From what little I've actually played of the game, I have to say it's one of the most engrossing games I've played as of late.

It is a first-person-shoot-em-up game, so maybe that's what some people find repeptitive. First person shooter games are not for everyone - I know a lot of people that really enjoy the strategy games like the ones Blizzard puts out, or interactive online gaming like Battlefield 1942 and 20 on. But what I find an extra bit cool about this game is the environment. It's really neat-oh, once you've lobbed off a bunch of baddies, to just wander around the game and look around until the next bunch of baddies come your way. There is an insane amount of detail, creatvity, artistry, and math that went into making this game. It's hellish, it's dark (can't play it in a lit room) gruesome, it's creepy, and it literally makes you jump. The alien creatures are fantastic, real slimey and slithering. They look wet, kind of like how the aliens in the movie Aliens look wet. The other characters in the game (the space Marines) have so much detail just in their facial features, it is almost as skilled looking as the Final Fantasy movie - and that's without the resolution turned up all the way. The sound really adds to the environment as well. I don't have 5.1, but this game really spooks in stereo just fine and with headphones you are immersed in another world. My husband was playing last night and he told me about this one area he was in, and on the ceiling there was a skeleton. it just sat there, then slid across the ceiling real slowly for no apparent reason other than to give you the heebie jeebies, and there were creepy children's like voices that sounded like sinister giggling - and it freaked him right the hell out.

The only bummer about this game is that our system is a little outdated. We need some more ram and a new motherboard - that way we can turn the resolution up on the game and not experience the choppiness, and see the game as it's meant to be seen. Still though, our box will play the game just fine, but there are some areas that do get a bit choppy.

hmmm No I think people still play half life.

Have people not heard of pubs. I'm suprised to hear this, I bought the Half Life generation pack cos I was told it was amazing. So I bought it, played it for an hour, unistalled it and threw it in the dustbin.

Counterstrike is shite too.

For me I like Tom Clancy games like the Rainbow Six series and Splinter Cell (favourite game of all time). Great graphics with amazing gameplay.

I want Rockstar to go back the ol' skool birdseye view with the Grand Theft Auto series, those were the days.

The Grand Theft Auto games are great, but I don't have a box for my tv and I find the controlls to be a strange feel when I play on my PC. I've always loved driving games, they tend to be my favorites really (still love wipeout xl!) but found them to be a lot of more enjoyable on a console than a computer. So hopefully one of these days I'll get an x-box. :) A friend showed me Need For Speed on his x-box and it was so cool, but when I got got a demo for the pc, it was damn near unplayable for me.

I didn't play Rainbow Six or Splinter Cell, but my husband did and he really enjoyed the games. A lot of the time he downloads demos, just to get a feel for the game. If he's engrossed and it keeps his attention, he'll just go out and buy the game. If not, he's onto the next game. He's very much a critic when it comes to gaming, it's just something he's always done (ahm to be married to a geek! ;) )

I used to play a lot of Unreal (the first one) and it was great but there were glitches in the game. The graphics were really pretty, and the colors were pleasing to the eye. But one thing I found annoying about Unreal was the inconsistancy of each of the maps. They all just had a different feel and it was enough to throw me off, and there were even parts near the end where I threw up my hands and got the cheats so I could get out of the level - it was most annoying! I found out later that each level, or map, was designed by a different person.

One thing I could never get into was the online gaming. I just found it to be so frustrating and it would piss me off. Not because I'm a sore looser, but because there were a lot of people out there who "camped" or that use cheat bots. That's why I just couldn't get into the multi-player Half Life or Quake III.

I hate campers, why do they bother actually playing online, there is no point to them.

Well Half life is still HUGE. Did you play half life? or something else? CS is about the most played game online. www.thecpl.com a tourney that just ended here in dallas. the top team walked away with 30k USD for first prize. Half life single player is pretty fun but can get a little drawn out. You buy hl for the mods.

I've seen some trailers, and i'm dead excited. The thing is I haven't even got the second one due to lack of funds, but once I get some spare cash that hasn't been allocated towards the drinking fund, i'll be on amazon ordering like a bastard.
