Does anyone know what happened to all releases of We Are The Night? It seems like it's not even available in most digital download stores, and the shops that have it feature the alternative artwork (black & blue one, not the one with hands)...

It's also not on iTunes anymore, I wanted to download The Rock Drill which was a bonus track there, but now they only have the standard 12-track version of the album with black & blue artwork.

Did they have some problems with the artwork and had to pull all the releases ?

I don't remember The Rock Drill being a WATN bonus track ? There was Seal and Giant, I think that's it.

As for the artwork, yes, they were sued because of the hands

Seal and The Rock Drill were iTunes bonus tracks on WATN when it just came out. That was the only way to get a proper version of the track...

As a bonus track i only remember Seal, and only in Japan. Giant, afaik, was a b-side for The Boxer - at least it is on my Boxer 12".

I remember The Rock Drill beeing sold on iTunes, but when i wanted to buy it there, there was no chance to find it anymore. I still want it on CD or Vinyl (and Silver Drizzle), but music industry is the shit.

There's no remix of The Rock Drill I believe...
There was a joke by Thepumisher about it, http://forum.thechem...15-super-flash/

As for Giant, it was originally a b-side on Believe single... It was also a bonus track on Japanese edition of Push The Button and was featured on "The Boxer" US EP.

AFAIK "no need" was also a bonus track on WATN.
I'm happy to own the hands version of the album :) a much underrated chems album IMO!

I have Seal as it's on my Japanese import of We Are The Night. But I totally missed out on purchasing Rock Drill. *sad panda face* However I have 3 very special copies of this album so I have nothing to be sad about. It is a bittersweet album for me. I love it to this day and suspect I always will.

I am still baffled as to how Rock Drill happened without me noticing? Did I black out? Was I simply absent from this plane of existence? Or do I just not remember?

I do see We Are The Night available on iTunes with the new artwork. For those of you who weren't here at the time, the artwork was changed due to some legal issues. Regarding the artwork, more can be found here:

In the 90s, they had limited edition singles, now they have limited edition digital downloads

Nope  Wasn't on the B-Sides V1

Just like All Rights Reversed (Fight The Drabs Mix) and Pourquoi, it was an iTunes-only track. No other shops sold those tracks.

Well, here's hoping all those rarities end up on the Singles 03-13 bonus disc (if that ever happens )

i remember the rock drill was made for an art piece and was played in the exhibit when the sculpture was shown in an art gallery.....for the life of me i cannot remember the name of the artist or piece. but it was a metal sculpture that was very weird........other than that it was never released on anything to my knowledge i dont even know how people got it, but whatever i never cared for that song too much.

^ It was named after the piece, they did it for Tate Tracks. People could hear it on headphones next to the work, and later for streaming on the Tate Tracks site (gone now due to copyrights).

Quote

Tate Modern [Britain's national museum of international modern art] invited The Chemical Brothers to walk around the gallery and find a work of art that would inspire them to write a track. It was Jacob Epstein's Torso in Metal from 'The Rock Drill' that grabbed their attention. It's a menacing sculpture made out of bronze. The Chemical Brothers said that they wanted to 'capture the latent feeling of force that the figure has.' The result was their track, The Rock Drill, which opened the groundbreaking Tate Tracks series.

Man I was totally out to lunch with this whole Rock Drill thing. LOL

I lose!!!

But it was more an issue of buying the album again, just for the one song. Plus there was the initial 'can't buy shit with a US iTunes login"

The Digital vs CD/vinyl/cassette/8-track/reel-to-reel argument is a hot button topic that spurs all sorts of discord in the forum. I don't dislike digital format, I'm not hating on itunes and have learned to accept and embrace its ease of availability and accessibility. But what I don't understand is why some areas can't have access to the same purchases that people in other places can. Perfect example is the Further iTunes pass. I was thrilled to have the opportunity of a sneak peak but it didn't feel right that people outside US couldn't get it unless they jumped and wriggled through all kinds of iTunes hoops to get it. It doesn't seem fair, and in a digital world it doesn't seem to make much sense. then again I have no idea how this stuff really works. So I'm probably just ranting to rant, for rant's sake.

nah, that Further pass was a major mess - I had to wait to get my hands on the dvd.
also i'm still a physical formats person - I don't mind buying iTunes but I always do still buy the physical stuff, so it's usually a double (rather triple buy in my case).
we need to get back to physical singles (itunes being an option)

Well, even though digital is quite easy to distribute, I guess it's still a matter of copyrights and contracts between license owners and the industry that causes those kinds of silliness like regional exclusive music. Think of regionallly bound DVDs and stuff. It's all part of that commercial game.

I think I downloaded The Rock Drill from the Tate Modern website at the time.

I have it, and I don't remember purchasing it from iTunes.
