Still haven't seen Shrek 2. My son went to see it with his grandmother and he enjoyed it so it's likely we'll end up buying it when it comes to dvd.

I did see Fahrenheit 911 last Friday though. I won't get too lengthy unless provoked but I'll say a few things. It's not a documentary that's unbiased but it brings up some very important points outlining the Bush II presidency from start to current. It also hits on many emotional levels. I urge everyone to see it, whether they be conservative or liberal. And if people don't want to spend the money, then Michael Moore himself encourages downloading of the film.

You are obviously speaking for just Americans, because universally there are other important political angles too. I have acquired a nasty habit of paying a lot of attention to the whole Bush administration mess and the forthcoming voting and everything, but only because of it's absurdity and entertainment value. I could make a claim:

"The world politics are the best (reality-tv) drama and entertainment today."

Well, perhaps I am speaking to just Americans - if that's how you see it, then fair enough. I won't argue with that. But there are some things I think more people outside the U.S. should see, and this film is one of them. Though at this point in time, given the unfavorable global view of Bush II already, Farhenheit 911 may be preaching to the choir so to speak.

You're right about media being info-tainment. In the U.S. the news is painful to watch not because the truth hurts, but because it's lopsided and dumbed down for the masses. I mainly sift through through various online sources and any major televised news I get from CNN (even though it's sanitized for the American viewing public) because I don't have the BBC. Comic relief news I get from the Daily Show because of it's brilliant, biting, and humorous commentary and at the end of the day I could use a laugh. Other than that, it's good to see I'm not alone when people with like interests like the Chemicals view the current Bush administration as absurd.

For some clarification by political angle I meant conservatives vs. liberals, because that's not really the only way of defining politics. There's no actual big conservative party in Finland, we do have a big right wing party but I think it is not that right wing.

I'm sure many wish to see fahrenheit in Europe too, but again, just for the entertainment value. I think many view these issues to be USA's own problems. Our country's latest big "issue" has been about how much we should lower our liquor taxes to prevent people from mass-shopping from Estonia. X-D

As to entertainment, EU is a bore. I'm sure those politicians get a kick out of their small talk and big conventions and everything, but we don't really know what they are doing there. The whole thing is a massive paperwork factory, which has the power to slowly change our laws and society.

So that's not very interesting, it's easier to bash Bush and Blair, so we are always eager to get to it. And I'm generalizing.

Aww, it's not a political battlefield yet. ;) I can't argue with soundertow, he's got valid points and it's good to have a Finnish view thrown into the global thought process here. I have a feeling other people may find this type of stuff boring (sorry! I helped derail a thread once again! :-// ) but I find global responses to matters like this to be intriguing...

On a lighter note, I may be taking my son to see Spiderman 2 this afternoon. :)

Fahrenheit 9/11: rocked

Spiderman 2: rocked (very funny :))

er, I think Fahrenheit 9/11 is best for Canadians?
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

Ha, so that would make me the thread-derailing mastermind! ;-)

I didn't realize this thread was about films. Is it? Ok. Should I go and see the spiderman movie? The last movie I remember watching in a theatre was the third matrix so ...umm... I should go and have a look.

Interestingly, we get spiderman here this week but fahrenheit is a month away or so.

Hmmm. I think it all started with anType mentioning how a cd triggers memories or something like that... then iguanapunk mentioned that he saw Day After Tomorrow and how he thought it was terrible... then I and some others kind of took that ball and ran with it... and there you go! :D

I didn't end up seeing Spiderman 2. Perhaps another day - I did go to the beach yesterday instead, which was interesting. It was so beautiful outside... I saw a dead jellyfish wash up on the shore, jellyfish being kind of rare in the area until a couple of months ago so that was cause for alarm. Someone screamed "jellyfish!!!" and I never saw so many people get out of the water in such a hurry in my entire life!

And there I go, derailing the thread even further, beyond all recognition...
