I've had a good while to listen to the b sides and I think they are some of the best yet. Giant is an incredibly textured song, which is a bit opposite of the ethos on the album. There are plenty of different noises and patterns but I think the best part is, like the big jump, this track hints at the 'demented' side the bros are experimenting with for the rumoured new material. About 1min in you get this female sounding sample, but it's all distorted and there's a really forceful punching sound in time with the sample, add to this the amazing/energized high pitched hum right at the very beginning (I can easily imagine this being beatmatched well in a dj set).
With Spring, there's a real oomph of overwhelming sound that makes you feel good and that everything is right with the world. My favourite part is near the end, where the bass is quite loud, the well-known birdie hi-hat sample crashes and then the bass slows down, then quickly goes up the scale. 8) 8)

I really enjoy both of these b-sides. Tremendously.
Like you said beatrobot, Giant does hint at that demented side that was spoken of in regards to Push The Button's supposed "evil twin". There's a twisted noise that pops up near the last quarter of the song that sounds sort of like a dark, menacing calliope from some wicked carnival. That's a weird description that probably doesn't make sense unless you're me, but that's the sort of image that pops into my head when I hear that massive sound. I love it. Giant also has a sort of forboding tone with the "gotta make it... gotta make this work" (unless I fucked up trying to decipher the vocal sample) I mentioned this earlier, but the thing I thought of when first hearing that vocal was some interviews where Tom and Ed mentioned that in the past - when they got guest vocalists in the studio, they had to make it work. But with Push the Button they gave themselves more freedom, so if it (guest) worked then great. If it didn't work, well, it didn't work.
What I love about Spring is that it sounds so joyful. A real about face if you think about some of the harder tracks we've heard from the latest Chems offerings. It just sounds like there was a lot of happiness and a lot of love going around when that song was made. It's bright and warm, twinkly and has a very relaxed and soothing quality without being over the top. It has a pureness to it that I can't explain. I know it sounds totally girlie but I can't help but feel happy when I hear that song. It's also very textured the way only the brothers can make a textured song, and that I'm a complete sucker for. :D

Yeah man, when I listened to that song I had the same thing!
But maybe I cried because it made me realize I have no life and spend entire days behind my pc's with other nerds who also don't have 'normal' lives.
