I was listening to net radio the other night and someone was playing some hiphop tunes. Now i love the tune by the chems, hey boy hey girl, but when i heards this tune, i was a little disgusted at the amount sampled off one single tune to sample for their tune.

i never knew anything was sampled until i heard it. I don't mind things being sampled, but the one thing that shocked me was the actually beat on the tune was as well, i thought aaaaaaaaay! aka practually all whole tune was sampled for theirs

Anyone noticed that as well?

i dont think that the vox hook and the kick underneath it at the start really constitutes a whole tune now does it....

plus you try eq'ing a kick out of a vocal sample and then avoiding the flam! that kick groove has a really nice swing to it anyway...

isnt a lot of dance music all about re-cycling ideas and putting them in a different context?

One thing to take into consideration is compare how "sampled" this song is to other dance tunes. my guess is you haven't heard too many original versions that were sampled, otherwise you'd know this one is relatively light sample compared to many... If this is true, try finding the samples of Daft Punk's "Robot Rock" or "Harder Better Faster..." and I can assure you you'll be on Daft Punk's forum getting slandered for being a cheeky n00b. Better yet, try the "Sampled" compilations, there's a whole world waiting for you on those and they're great albums.

I don't know much about eq'ing kicks out of vocals and avoiding flams (I'll leave that to mips and the other pros) but another thing to keep in mind is that the Chems have never been shy about exposing where samples come from. They talked about it in interviews both in video and in print. And legally, they have to get clearance for samples and give credit where credit is due (see liner notes for examples). What's the problem?

cmrmagazine, not everybody has to like that the Chemical Brothers use samples in their tunes, and not everybody has to like the Chemical Brothers. And that's fine if they don't float your boat. But to come to the band's official forum and falsely accuse them of "aka practually all whole tune was sampled for theirs" is just not cool.
