If production starts on a new forum album may i suggest one thing.......perhaps we should create a theme rather then just a compilation of songs. And yes, I do realize that if we work with a theme it will be difficult and take some time. But were in no rush, so we can take our time.

Hmmm. Interesting idea Bosco. It might be a really difficult task to come up with a theme or concept that could be collectively streamlined by all the different people here... what you have is a great idea... Concept albums or albums that have a consistant theme can be wicked but people are influenced by so many things, their inspiration comes from different places and that's reflected in the music they create. By telling someone they have to work within a framed concept, the final product might not be as free...

I hope I made sense.

You made perfect sense. I just think it would be a cool challenge to try.

tbh, it was a right mission getting people to submit tracks last time - so writing to a theme could go one of 2 ways - evryone will really dig it and because theres a framework/objective more stuff will get done OR people will lose interest because they feel constrained.

i suspect itll be more likely the latter - the more 'rules' there are the less submissions youll get.

not to piss on anyones cheerios or anything, its a cool idea, and one that might work with the right level of comittment. its just these internet collab thingys are hard work ;)

I was actually thinking about this on the drive home from work today (because I am that geeky). Plus the clouds parted after a lot of recent heavy rain, and everything is green and the air is so crisp... Anyway.

What was I trying to say?

Oh yes. I was listening to the I Think I'm In Love remix and it just reminds me of these times I had. So I got to thinking about those early early mornings where i'd be completely burnt around the edges from a hard night out - sitting in the womb like comfines of my livingroom, sinking into my couch and listening to tunes as the first hints of new daylight start to sink in through the windows. You know that pale blue light I'm talking about. You know you had a great time the night before and you didn't want it to end. But even though you're feeling crispy from a multitude of personal poisons and sleep deprivation, as the morning comes, there's something comforting and welcoming about the new day when the world is asleep and you're having your moment. It makes you feel like it's just you in the world.

Bah, I'm babbling.

I know it must be a sign of age, because it's those early morning moments I look forward to after a long night out. You can reflect on the night before, play out the night before in your mind. And I think, as a concept or a theme, everyone's had a long night out and stayed up to watch the sunrise. I think it's something just about everyone here can relate to on some level.

I'd be up for writing the come-down song if there ever was such a concept album!

I hear what you're saying whirly; the early morning experience after a night out.

That's a pretty cool idea for a concept because there are alot of different parts to work with there: the memories, the feelings, the physical, the spiritual, the mental, it can be deep or shallow, good or bad, missed opportunites, new opportunities etc etc etc.

Just to expand on that ... it could be a concept of attending a Chems gig: the buildup, the actual gig, then the comedown. Thought I'd throw that out there.

Or even just the entire dusk til dawn experience as the concept.

Could open with Mippio's 'Office Politics' as you count down the last minutes of work on Friday afternoon ... End with a blissful sunrise moment. :D Tracks of building intensity in the middle. Some drama. Some euphoria. Some evil. A moment in the chillout room. The cigarette break on the patio. Caning it hard. Stopping to pound shots.

Yes! Thank you Consumer and Darkstar for being able to decipher my little rant! You've expanded in much easier-to-swallow terms of what I was getting at as far as a concept.

The night has highs and lows, but everything - even if the night has it's rough patches or goes off without a hitch - even if it was the best night of your life or the worst night of all time - it's streamlined and fluid in the experience.

But come to think of it, anyone who submits music can have a part in the dusk til dawn experience, even if the word "concept" doesn't cross the mind consciously when the songs are being made (because great concepts can be brought on subconsciously, you know?). It would allow more freedom from the songwriting point of view. I think a big part of this streamlining I'm talking about would have to do with the actual production and mixing to bring it all together so it creates that concept. That would be the challenge! But it's something to go on. I'm just brainstorming on Bosco's idea. :P

Well, I'm going to see if I can find the time over the summer to make something. If nothing else, I will learn how to use Reason at a beginner's level. :D

making a concept album will require a lot of hard work, espcially in the mixing aspect of it. Personally i won't have any problem following a particular theme or a concept May i suggest something chemical like drugs,journey,hooks- vocal/instrumental,psychadelic,big beats, breakdowns, buildups, summer, hip hop samples,s.....along those lines.

i strive for a fun challenge. Collaborations and remixes could be interesting too...

A remix album would be cool, maybe each track could have a chems sample. However I think the chems work is allready brilliant how it is and doesnt need remixing.

I'm totally up for a second album of some fresh beats and melodies! But i'm not sure about this theme idea coz of its complexity and the fact (looking back to vol.1) it'll be hard to manage with all the ones that will be involved to contribute something to a certain topic or stuff. The idea itself is great but i don't see how it should work, i mean, everyone would need to listen to the stuff the others have written in order to get the spirit of the whole project and then had to write something corresponding. It would be like a random shot, you know, i'll send a track but doesn't fit in, so it would take ages to bring all the artists down to a common denominator. Well, i'm not very pleased about remixing the chems too (if i understood right?) because we should do our own thing (not to mention that we're all influenced, that's clear), not aping (in the worst case). Please don't get me wrong. I liked the way the previous brilliant work was done and we should continue that concept. We could afresh pick up this theme idea in vol.3 when all the things or we're doing a double album?!

Hey I was thinking about the idea of collaborations in my shower... And I remember that in FL Studio 5 and 6 there is something called "Collab" to make collaborations with other people over the net... I've never used it and I don't know if it works with a cracked version, but Csar, would you like to give it a try ? :D
