it's more escapism than a high. if it's party all the time, where's the "party'?
This bit is a paradox to me... Don't get me wrong. I see what you are saying and I agree with so much of what you said... I love a good buzz, I love the aspect of getting high because to do so, you are using that to escape, to feel good be it physically or emotionally or both. People choose different ways to escape and in the end you're just getting a high off the physical feeling or the emotional aspect of escapism. Some drugs lead you on different paths but in the end you end up in the same place, although in varying degrees. High.
That last bit you said (I quoted) up there, I can totally see what you mean. Nothing more to say other than moderation is key - anything in excess an destroy you.
All in all that's a pretty heavy fuckin post all around. I'm sorry that you were surrounded by that and lost people you loved and cared for... it's good that you feel comfortable sharing something that has had an obvious impact on how you feel.
On that note - a good example of long term chemical dependancy is stash's batty ol' grandma. Her medicine cabinet looks like a drug store which is common looking into any elderly person's medicine cabinet I suppose. But anyway. It was shortly after stash's grandpa died and stash, his mother, me and grandma were sitting in the kitchen chatting to pass the time and we started talking about Lebrium (because stash is always snaking a pill or 2 or 4 when he visits). stash's mom says, "Hey, you shouldn't be taking that stuff, you'll get addicted!" And stash's grandma says, "Librium is NOT addictive!! I've been taking it for 40 years and I'm not addicted!!"
After a brief you-can-hear-a-pin-drop pause, we all laughed so hard that even stash's grandmother could see how ludicrous her claim was.
