"I'm in a drug free van now. The Chemicalless Brothers"

This was a warning notice at Tribal Gathering 1996. Thought I'd share that with you.

They've probably done acid a few times growing up, a lot of people. But I don't think they're doing it now

what a bizarre thing to be talking about....I'm not fussed what they've got up to but I'm with mips - I'm sure they've got all squiggly in the past but I don't they're big caners

for what it's worth I feel like I'm on drugs listening to their music - which I think is the effect they're going for......see brian eno quote etc

anyway, silly subject - lets talk turkey

They guys have certianly taken there fair share of mind bending chemicals, they sensible keep quiet about what and when, but there is little chance they would have gone to the Hacienda every week, during the heyday of Acid and Amyl House and not had a good old party.

Regarding them still -in the words of - Jim Morrison still taking trips, dots or squares not sure. What I do know is that if you have been to any of thge Glint parties at Turnmills lately or were in the dance tent last year for glasto then you would have seen how Tom has had to help Ed out with some of mixes due to his rather intoxicated state - and I don not mean drunk

What is true though is that you dont have to be take drugs to feel the vibe of the brothers. However, there music idef lends itself to a pschdelic rather than energetic/mashed up state.

As a final point they have mentioned in several interviews how they have calmed down in recent years and no longer feel the need to be out every weekend (esp for Tom since the birth of Matilda.)

Sorry about the typos and in the actual words of Jim Morrison were that taking acid is liek taking the blinkers of life.

now that is just slanderous bullshit. i have been to the parties on many occasions. the chemical brothers are a professional band, they do not get twated when they perform because they are professionals. they only intoxication when performing is from the music.

The 2 times I've seen them dj, the only things I've seen them do in the line of intoxicants was take swigs off beer bottles... and smoke cigarrettes (except the last venue I saw them at imposed the no smoking rule rather harshly - poor Ed, I could tell he was jonsing for a smoke!!) No dilated pupils, no staring off into space, no nodding off at the decks. They're a team.

Course I haven't been to any of the Glint/Turnmills parties - but even still I can't imagine them being completely fucked to the gills if they have a job to do. Afterwards, who knows, why judge them if they want to loosen up and party. They aren't hurting anyone.

I agree they are profesionals muscians/performers and they also rock the place like no one else, the only other performance that rates in my top 5 ever gigs is the Rolling Stones. It is not slanderous it is just an overriding impression from the last few gigs I have seen.

Of course it is impossible to prove unless they came out and say it but I have spoken to several people, particualrly about the glasto performance, and ed simply was not up to scratch on that occasion. (for peeople that were there this is not related to the technical fault with the equipment at the begining of their set.

I can only presume either you dont stay for the full 5hr set when glint is on (toilet breaks are obviously an exception :o) or you do not want to see this.

Also if you were at GLint in Dec you would have seen Ed smokin a spliff. and that is a FACT.

But as several people have indicated it does nto matter what they take, or if they have even ever tried any drugs. There music kicks ass and has an amazing effect or affect on people.

They are a team but thers is no doubt in my mind that Tom does have to carry Ed in some situations. But that is true of any team.

i think its more likely that tom helps ed out because:

a) ed cant mix very well (bless 'im - he does try though!!)

b) they consume enough vodka & orange to knock over a small elephant (as seen at MANY glint parties - especiialy the ones in heaven at the end of '02) - maybe tom can handle his vodka better??? :)

i dont think their on the old jack n jills when they dj, but anyway, as you say - who cares - they rock regardless.
