Don't suppose anyone knows what synth the Chems used to create the lead line from 'Hey Boy Hey Girl' (the plucky one that sounds like its been programmed in a step sequencer).

Or can someone give me a detailed step by step on how to re-create the sound (as close as possible to the original) using a virtual synth plugin/or Reason?

So many recreations of the part I've heard in remixes tend to get the main notes but miss the subtle 'ghost notes' that are behind the main sequence

I think this is the closest recreation I've found that seems to get the main sequence right (2:25 secs in you can hear what I mean)...

Thanks for your help

I think they used a Roland Juno-106.. I know they use it live fir the riff

Cheers for the info, I'm guessing they had another external step-sequencer as the Juno-106 didn't have one, possibly the Akai MPC3000? Its really tough tryin to make out the full sequence they used, there's definitely notes behind the obvious ones that stand out, sounds like the ones that stand out possibly have been accented more from the sequencer.

My bad, I believe at the time they were using Cubase VST3 as their main sequencer.

hi mls and biff, the riff was originally written on an arp step sequencer controlling an arp 2600.it sounds like the notes are accented but infact the seq is just triggering one of the 2600 vco whilst the second vco is just droning with no pitch cv or gate at a lower volume....we use the juno 106 to play it live as the 2600 would not tour so well .it doesnt quite sound the same but it will do!!good luck with your recreation!cheers tom

Cheers Tom, now u mention it, the ARP 2600 that makes perfect sense, I think I understand what you're saying about the 2nd VCO droning away behind the sequence, similar to playing something on a monophonic synth whilst holding down a lower bass note, where whenever there are gaps in the top part being played, the synth automatically jumps down to the lower note.

Thanks for the help, can't wait to hear what you've got in store for the next album

Probably duophonic, one note remaining consistant in the back while the other plays the riff, which then goes through the envelope/vca, that's my best guess, since it's modular. Very interesting, thought it was more simple. Guess I'll really have to listen ( ie turn it up to 11) today when I get off work.

Just messing around on the demo version of Arturia ARP2600v n yeah! Doesn't really work the way I thought it would, gonna take a fair bit of tweaking to work it out

I think I've got something going now, got the main part sequenced through VCO1 with VCO2 droning behind it, i'm a bit stuck as to what to do from there, first time I've ever attempted at programming something like this, but still great fun either way. Anyone able to help me as to where to go next?

Here's the preset I've made so far...

indeed. top info tom.

whenever I hear the main synth line snaking out I always visualise molten chocolate being poured.

sort of like a 1980's cadburys dairy milk ad.
