the humans are always comparing...since the caveman...really...you shoud read about it. comparing prodigy with the chemical bros it's simply stupid...why?...well, they both have great careers, both got the same influences (as afro88 wrote), but they're different. the chems are like the tail of a peacock. wide, open, for another audience. prodigy is for the long time hardcore electro listeners, like most here, we've got more that 10, 12, 15 years with this genre.

prodigy and the chems got also the privilege of being some of the most influential artists/musician in the last century, with other guys like the rolling stones, the beatles (sorry...the GODS), led zep, pink floyd (the other gods) massive attack, daft punk & air, kraftwerk, run dmc, bob marley...hey...if that's not "2 thumbs up", then i must be crazy.

so, don't compare what is different: prodigy is electro punk (keith flint is the electronic version of john lydon), the chems are a mobile collection, mixed and remastered. in other words, Prodigy is for MTV...The Chems are for VH1. See ya.

Jumped onto this thread late, heres my reasons why the chems are better...

1.There Music is so much better, its more varied, it allways sounds thresher and theres not many poor tunes.

2.Chems have allways stuck with there fans and not let them down by fucking off for 5 years or whatever it was.

3.The Chems have been more sussessfull and are more popular.

I also don't like it how on the prod forum they have a big thing against the chems and are very jealous.

Aww cumon ! Chems and Prodigy should be friends. I fucking hate these comparisons. I love all of them. Prodigy, Chems, Orbital, Junkie XL and Underworld are my all-time top 5 artists and they will always be, because they were my gateway to GOOD electronic music. I was listening to them when I was a kid, they all inspire me in different ways and I think it's a sacrilege and blasphemy to compare them.

you read my mind, why we need to make comparisons, all are great and diferent.

i think the comparisions have been pretty sensible and constructive. there has been comparisions between bands for years, the beatles and the rolling stones, blur and oasis, the chems and the prod. whats the harm??

anyway maybe we should go back to the original question. would you like to see the 2 bands collaborate??

my answer, no. i could not see any point to it

Na i don't wanna see them collaberate. Tom once said that its interesting when different types of artists come together rather than simular ones. I wanna see them work with N*E*R*D, Muse and Radiohead.

Couldn't read thru this long thread but here's my li'l take ..

When I got into this genre of music, the Prodigy and the Chems happened almost together to me. They were both certainly two of my best bands in electronica, and if back in 98 i had to choose which was better, i'm sure i would have been a bit lost. Both were big drums and did kinda different things, but happened to bring the roof down alright. And both were pushing the limits.

But looking back now that i am a bit grown up, I think the Chems are way bigger than anyone else in this genre or any other in their scope for creativity and their ability to evolve, and still not conform. Today I can't even compare the Prodigy to the Chems.. they'r totally different levels. The Chems have way many more dimensions to them, and given their discography, have way outclassed the Prodigy long back.

And yes AONO sucked.

They still were doing tours until 2002. Plus would you have rather had Liam spitting out more garbage like Baby's Got a Temper, he needed the break, he wasn't feeling the music at the time, the record labels were pushing him too much. It was a smart choice in my mind.

I think so too. Liam did the right thing and i also think that Aono was a hard record to make kindda like come with us. Give him one more chance. Let us see his true talent. Let him release another album and then we can compare the 2 bands....but in the meantime i think it would be fair to compare EPD to MFJG and DYOH to FOL. If you want to compare AONO compare it with CWU coz it's only fair. and what about surrender you ask? well no fuckin album can top surrender so there is no question about it.

The Jilted Generation tops Surrender easily. Surrender IS the worst album of the Chems imho.

Prodigy don't do anything that I couldn't do with a gram of meth and my copy of Reason.

Charly was their last good single.

Firstly, I don't do meth anymore. I also don't make music. IMO, neither does Prodigy.

No one releases my music because I am neither (a): A good looking black man with tribal tattoos all over my body nor (b) a fuckwit with a reverse mohawk and so many piercings that airline travel is complete impossibility.

You see, like Prodigy, I have no talent. Unlike Prodigy, I didn't happen to make one good dance song 10 years ago and then obtain a really good PR firm, and suck up to Madonna on tips on how to seem relevent long after my relevence had ended.

Seriously, have you heard their last album? it sounds like someone feeding cats backwards into a paper shredder... 'I LOVE ROHYPNOL! SHE LOVES ROHYPNOL! JUST FORGETITALL!'... yes, good advice, I want to take rohypnol until I completely destroy all memory of that band.
