All clubs come to an end eventually. Just look at all the previous superclubs…. Hacienda the was turned into flats years ago, Gatecrasher (Sheffield) burnt to the ground, Cream (Liverpool) shut due to low numbers, Home (London) shut to low numbers & problems with drugs, Godskitchen is still kicking about but has changed venues numerous times. The only one still kicking about is fabric but I have been there on some nights and it’s dead. The reason for this is because all clubs have peaks but they have been unable to carry that on week in / week out due to silly money demands from the DJ’s. Also add to the equation that everybody and their mother is now a DJ and these people are all throwing nights on at smaller venues. Personally I think the reason for the demise of clubbing and the superclubs is also down to a range of different choice of music on offer, before you just had 4 or 5 different options, house, trance, hard house, techno & drum & base. Now you have such diversity plus dance music in general is not as popular as it was. I remember back in 1999 - 2000 you had to be in the queue for crasher for about 8pm and even then there was no guarantee you would get in due to overwhelming numbers wanting to get in. I really think clubbing is going back to ol' skool and is now more about the music less about the big name dj's and paying £15 - £20 to get into a club. Tonight I’m off to Shoreditch for the ISSST warehouse party, I’ve never been but I’m looking forward to seeing if this is the future of clubbing!
