The Chemical Brothers, Henry Jackman, iZLER, Alex Heffes and Christopher Paul Leonard-Morgan have been nominated for Discovery of the Year at the World Soundtrack Awards. The award will be handed out Oct. 22 at the Kuipke Events Centre in Ghent, Belgium.
Heffes, whose credits include "The Last King of Scotland," is up for his work on "The First Grader" and "The Rite;" the Chemical Brothers created the soundtrack for "Hanna;" and iZLER, a Czech composer, is competing in Ghent with "Hamill" and "Natural Selection."
Jackman, who collaborated numerous times with Hans Zimmer, is up for his scores for "Gulliver's Travels" and "X-Men: First Class," while Leonard-Morgan is nominated for his score to "Limitless."
The winner gets the opportunity to perform at next year's World Soundtrack Awards. This year, the Brussels Philharmonic-Flemish Radio Orchestra will perform music by Abel Korzeniowski, winner of the Discovery and Public Choice Awards in 2010 for "A Single Man."
The World Soundtrack Academy, made up of 313 members from the international world of film music, vote on the awards handed out during the Ghent Film Festival, which is scheduled for Oct. 11-22.

The world of soundtrack/classical music is very endogamic and very old-fashioned, so I don´t know how classical composers see a techno act taking their place...Maybe I´m wrong but...will the Chems team up again with Wright for Anna Karenina?
I´ve only listened to the Limitless score, which is very good. For me Alexandre Desplat is heads above the rest, he works very fast and when he does his best, he makes magic (Syriana and Un Prophète), but he´s not there?
Abel Korzeniowski is considered like a genius, but it´s so pompous it´s annoying.

a question that comes out of this nomination is whther the academy will even consider Hanna for that crazy oscar race?
oh wait, they only go with films that get buzz starting in november. What a shame. Sure they considered Social Network (and won) with its Trent Reznor soundtrack, but it also was a oscar dandy for nominations. We'll wait and see.

I really hope the soundtrack will win an award (even though I don't need that to know it is awesome). The movie...apart from Saoirse Ronan's performance, I don't really care.

haven't even seen the movie as I don't care much... but want the OST to win an oscar. just to tell my parents who could hardly ever understand me listening to the chemical brothers that "oh, by the way, the chemical brothers have just been winning an oscar!"
love is all.
