They used to be my favorite band, but they haven't released a decent album since 2004 and they stopped playing live shows... I saw them DJ in 2006 and they're STILL Djing.

I few years ago I went to the NAMM show by some fluke (they hold it out here in S. California every year and you musicians here would cream your shorts if you went). There was a whole section devoted to all things electronic and The Crystal Method were there doing a presentation. I din't get to see much of it at all because I was with someone who wasn't very interested at the time. But anyway. This was before Legion Of Boom came out and the Method's career was still relatively young. When Legion Of Boom came out, I remember it being criticised as too soft and too streamlined. I put 2 + 2 together and thought for sure, given their interest in putting on that presentation at the NAMM show, that Crystal Method were honing in on their production skills/ability with Legion Of Boom.

I guess I was wrong. I really thought they would have gone more that route and delved into production.

Nothing wrong with DJ'ing though if that's their niche and makes them happy but I wouldn't mind it if they put out more tunes, just to hear if they could evolve with the times.. Perhaps they felt like they ran out of steam on the musical production front. Or maybe they're just taking a hiatus.

Their style and direction differed very little between their first and their last album. Their production values may have gotten better, but stylistically they stayed the same.

I dug Legion of Boom quite a bit for a while, and even saw them twice on that tour. But, alas, I'd say it wasn't in my top ten memorable shows. They didn't quite carry the vibe all the way through their set--they stopped in between songs, belying the electronic genre and going with a more "rock set" feel, when it was anything but rock.

I also caught them at Love Parade SF back in 2005 doing a DJ set, and it wasn't amazing. That was probably the reason I didn't end up seeing them DJ for NYE, though compared to what I did end up seeing I wish I did.

If they came out with new material, though, I'd at least give it a listen and see if they had anything new to offer.

The Crystal Method is a lot like crystal meth.

It used to be a lot of fun, but now it just tires me out.

yep, exactly the same.

Their newest stuff isn't spectacular though. Soundtrack work, TV stuff, the Nike thing.. meh.

Indeed, they did a killer bootleg remix of Do It Again too.

Saw them DJ at Fabric a few weeks ago, didn't really seem to know what they were doing. Mixing was terrible. This is only in retrospect though.. I think they started with a nice remix of Saturate which in my book allowed them to do whatever the hell they wanted for the rest of the night

Speaking of which if anyone was there do they know what the 5th or 6th track they played was, with the amazing bass guitar solo before the beat dropped? Long shot but its worth a try I guess.. sigh, if only Fabric had a members board.

I'm not a fan of their newer stuff, but did really enjoy them a few years back! I went to see them live at Sankeys in Manchester, a few years back.. and they rocked!

So that was posted in January... how many more weeks of summer do we have?

I'm fairly psyched about a new crystal method album. London soundtrack was really good I thought!

Not to mention I bought DYOH, my first Chem album, at the same time I bought Legion of Boom.

two months of summer left :D

They are doing a remix competition so I have all the tracks to their newest tune!

i think the crystal meth went down the drain since they released that crap in the name of community service - they've had the ocassional one or two decent song here and there since, but nowhere close to the first two albums they released. Tweekend still holds very nice memories of a wayward youth! i'm gonna play it now.

I'll definitely give the new album a listen, but I'm not hoping for much.

One of the things that I got from seeing TCM a few times is that they're trying to build on a scene that's no longer there...

Who knows--maybe they got some amazing inspiration since their Legion of Boom.
